Okay, can I just ramble about this for a moment? Because I feel like this teeny little snippet of a scene is SO important.
Look how gentle Natasha is with Clint’s kid. She’s an assassin who was trained to care about nothing but her mission. I very much doubt she spent much time drawing pictures when she was a kid, and she probably would’ve been scolded or dismissed if she’d tried to show them to people.
And somehow, she’s broken through all that cold indifference she was supposed to have. She breaks her attention away from what’s going on to acknowledge Lila (I think it’s Lila?) and then she PRAISES her for it, and so sweetly too.
I’m probably making way too much of a big deal out of this, but I think it’s incredible how much she managed to grow as a person, and move away from what the Red Room made her into, even in the profession she maintains. Natasha is so damn strong.

FAVE MARVEL LADIES: Natalia Romanova
Her outburst took him by surprise, and he froze where he stood. His mouth opened to reply but he didn’t know what to say, he hated that he was the reason she was in this much pain. After she’s left he slowly jogged after her, stopping in front of her door. “Kat?” Cooper said, knocking softly on the door. “Can I come in and talk to you?”
Of course he’d followed her. They may not be together anymore, but they’d never stopped caring about each other. Not really. Katerina leaned her head back against the door, pulling her knees to her chest and wrapping her arms around them. “No...no you can’t come in.” There was a pause. “But you can stay out there and talk to me.”
Cooper’s hand fell down to his side with a soft sigh. He wanted to know what made her feel this bad so he could at least try to help her. When she stepped back he stayed where he was not wanting to upset her anymore than she was. His heart broke when she told him he couldn’t help. “Did I… Did I do something to hurt you?” He asked glancing down at the ground. “If I did I’m so, so sorry.”
Katerina stayed silent for a long time before she finally blurted out, “It’s that stupid name! I can’t even stand it when people use it to just refer to a baby cat! Every time I hear that damn word it breaks me, and I can’t help dying a little bit!” She stumbled back, hands flying up to cover her mouth, eyes gone wide with shock at her own outburst. “I’m sorry,” she muttered, turning and sprinting down the hall. She only stopped once she reached her bedroom in the compound, slamming the door shut and pressing her back to it as she sunk to the floor.
He carefully placed a hand on her shoulder. “Don’t lie to me, I know you’re not okay. Please tell me what’s wrong.” He said in a soft tone, one he’d only ever used with her. It hurt him to see someone he cared about so much look so hurt. “Please, I want to help you.”
Katerina shrugged off his shoulder, his mere presence starting to make her uncomfortable now. She took a few steps back, wanting desperately to run, a feeling she hadn’t felt since her days with Hydra. But this was different, not driven by fear, but an aching deep in her chest. “That’s just it though. You can’t help me.”

Cooper turned around with a concerned look on his face when she let go of him. “H-hey. Are you okay?” He asked as she was leaving. Quickly he grabbed her bag for her and ran after her. “Katerina!” He called, only stopping when he was in front of her. “What’s going on?”
Katerina flinched away from him, her arms wrapped tight to her torso. “I’m fine, Cooper. I just don’t feel like training anymore.” She lightly bit the inside of her cheek, silently berating herself for the obvious lie. She’d been trained to lie by the best for various missions, and yet she failed when it came to him.

“That’s sweet of you to say,” Taylor smiled awkwardly, “but I’m sure dad was hoping his only boy would be a fighter. Not some nerd that’s usually cooped up in a lab.” He listened to Katerina as she packed her stuff away. He tried not to look at her too much. It just made him anxious. When he heard what she said about eating it on the recovery part, he perked up again. “You…you know my specialty is medical. Maybe I can help you, a bit.”
Katerina listened in silence as they walked through the near empty halls. The compound had been oddly quiet as of late. “Medical? And how exactly do you propose using medical to help me with a failure to recover a target?” Despite her attempt to use a joking tone, it came off more accusatory than anything else. She gripped the strap on her bag, eyes going to the floor. “Sorry, I’m just not the biggest fan of medical specialists as a group...bad experiences.”
