Your feet were up in the dash as you sat in the car with your best friend.
The same best friend that youâve been in love with for years, but youâd never tell her that.
The rain pelted down on the roof of the car as you sat in a comfortable silence, the radio playing softly in the background. You glanced a look over at her, her head was leaned back against the headrest, waves of her brown hair fanning across her shoulders and the seat.
You gave her a soft smile as she turned to look at you, and she gave one back, one that sent butterflies through your stomach.
Her once breathtaking smile turned into a devious grin as she opened her door and stepped out of the car, her arms opening as she leaned her head back and laughed as the rain began to soak through her clothing.
âWhat are you doing?â You shouted at her as you followed her action, getting out of the car and making your way over to her, she fixed her gaze on you, and smiled as she said, âliving my life since thereâs only one to live.â
You pondered on her words for a moment as you stood there, the rain seeping through your clothes, you could feel the wetness seeping between your toes and you almost had the right mind to shove her back into the car. But as you stood there and watched her, as she began to run around the empty parking lot, yelling your name as she encouraged her to join you, you came to the realization that you didnât care if you were soaked, or that your shoes were full of water, you were beyond grateful to be spending this moment in time with her.
So you ran to her, and you embraced her in a hug as you two danced around in the rain, but what once was the time of your life ended almost too quickly as a quick text from her mom signaled that it was time for the two of you to return home.
The drive home was quiet, both of you quivering with chills, the seats in her car now soaked from your clothes, but you sat and looked out the window with a smile on your face as you recounted the night you had, and how you wanted it to happen again, and again.
You turned to her, ready to confess what youâve always wanted to, she met your gaze for a second before turning back to the road, âyes y/n?â Your throat closes, and your sudden confidence just mere seconds ago diminished and you shook your head slightly, âitâs nothing.â You mustered out and turned back to look out the window
A cold hand came over and touched yours, slender fingers entwined with your own, as you sucked in a shallow breath and tried to control your rapidly beating heart. âAre you sure?â She questioned one more time, this time you turned to her with a soft smile, and a nod of reassurance. âYes Wands, itâs okay, nothing to stress about.â
She smiled at you and squeezed your hand before pulling her own away, and you tried to hide the hurt in your face at the loss of warmth that her hand was bringing you.
Your house came into view far too quickly than you wouldâve liked, and you pouted slightly at the thought the night was over. Wanda parked the car as she turned her body towards you, holding her arms out for a hug, one that you quickly reciprocated as you wrapped your arms around her waist and gave her the bust hug you possibly could.
âThank you for tonight Wands, I had-â but you were cut off before you could finish your sentence, the softest lips pressing against your own, silencing the words that wanted to fall from your mouth. You tried to reciprocate the kiss, but as quick as her lips were on your own, they just as quickly left.
You sat there, dumbfounded at what just happened, Wanda whispered a sweet âgoodnight y/nâ in your ear, and you swore your body worked on pure muscle memory as you got out of the car and stood on the sidewalk in front of your house, watching as her car disappeared down the street, your brain still trying to process what had happened.
You went to bed with a smile on your face that night.
A few days had passed, and you found yourself over at her place, your bodyâs tangled together under a plethora of blankets, naked bodies pressed against each other as you held each other close.
Her hand came up to draw a soft line down your face before tangling itself in your hair, pulling you in for another kiss, one of the many that were shared that night. No words were spoken as her kisses trailed down your neck, and her body suddenly disappeared underneath the bed sheets.
It was you that had your fingers tangled in her hair as she touched you the way no one else has before. The only sounds emitting in the room were the quiet moans that you let slip past your lips.
She crawled her way back up your body as she finished, her body resting on yours as she kissed you with more passion this time, her tongue swiping across your bottom lip, begging for entrance, entrance that you happily allowed, and the whine that you let out couldnât be contained as you got a taste of yourself on her tongue.
She pulled away when breathing was necessary, and gazed down at you with nothing but love in her eyes, and those three words that sat in the tip of your tongue, begging to be spoken never came out, you didnât want to ruin the moment.
Before you knew it, your time together was over and she was driving you home again, this time, her hand remained intertwined with yours in your lap as she drove you home.
As the car came to a still, and you looked over at her, those three words finally escaped, âI love you.â You breathed out, and she stared at you, for what felt like forever before grabbing you by the collar of your shirt and pulling you in for a kiss.
And just when you thought she was going to say those three words back to you, a honk echoed in the background and you were snapped out of your thoughts. You looked up and noticed the green light, you pressed gently down on the gas.
But itâs not real, and she doesnât exist, and you truly, you canât ever remember the last time you were properly kissed. It hits you, when youâre in your car, that the love shared between the two of you never existed, and it never would.
Tears prickle in your eyes and your quick to wipe them away before they dare fall down your face, and youâre left alone in your car, the place you once thought would be the beginning of forever.

Sheâd have to be careful with it since youâre always so nosy, ordering the hammock, its posts, and other decorations to the farm office instead of home, keeping all the plants in the greenhouse and making sure you donât stick your head in there, etc.
When time finally comes to put her plan into motion, she gets Nat and Agatha to keep you busy all day with strict instructions not to bring you back until dusk. It breaks her heart to drop you off at Natâs cabin when youâre so pouty about it, wanting her to hang out with you as she typically did whenever she took a day off, but Wanda knew itâd all pay off.
And the poor thing works hard all day, pulling up grass and tilling dirt to lay stepping stones, stick the hammock in place, plant your favorite flowers.. Wanda even made the last minute decision to build some wood framework around two sides of the nook so she could wind those blue and white fairy lights she saw you admiring whenever you went into town.
By the time you get home, Wandaâs putting the finishing touches on, placing fluffy outdoor pillows and some new blankets in the hammock and the large glider chair sheâd bought as an added place to sit. She hears you calling out for her from inside the house so Wanda rushes to greet you and you giggle at her dirt smudged denim cut offs, the old shirt she only wore around the house somehow even more grungy now. âWhere have you been? You were supposed be taking a day off-â
âDonât lecture me about resting until you see what Iâve been doing!â Wanda laughs, closing the distance between you two so she could turn you in her arms and cover your eyes with her hand, âWalk with me, bunny. Iâve got a surprise for you.â
The next time you open your eyes youâre greeted with the most beautiful sight youâve ever seen. âWanda, what..â
âI wanted to give you your own special place,â Wanda stepped around to face you, fiddling with her hands as she pointed out all the details and features of your new custom space. âThought it might be nice since you were kind enough to move in with me.. felt a little bad Iâve got all my shit everywhere and you didnât have much. But if you donât like it o-or if you want something inside I can-â
You shut her up with a kiss, passionate and insistent, crashing into her hard enough to make her stumble back a step. Pulling away, you hold her face in your hands, thumbs brushing away the small flecks of dirt sheâd gotten on her cheeks during the day. âYou sweet, sweet girl⊠Come try out this hammock with me.â
Laying under the stars, snuggled deep into Wandaâs arms under your new quilt as the two of you gently swayed back and forth, youâre sure youâre going to burst with all the love hammering through your body. "So you like it?"
Wanda feels you nod against her chest, gently squeezing her arm in reassurance, "I love it.. love you more though." It's true, as much as you adore this spot, you know it means so much that she made it, that she thought of your needs and took so much time to create something special in an effort to make you feel welcome in your new home. As if your girlfriend didn't already keep you happy and secure everyday.
And youâre just about to ask Wanda a question about the constellation you spotted when you hear a soft snore from above so you resign yourself to closing your eyes too; Wandaâs long day and your overwhelming emotions tuckered you both out.
