- Sal Barbier NBS Mount Hawke Cornwall 1992 - Both @sal_barbier and Pat Duffy had travelled a very long way on an early 1990s Plan B Skateboards trip to deepest Cornwall to skate some high kerbs. - It ended up being well worth the mileage for me. - I’m not sure what I was doing in Cornwall at the time but this image ended up being used on the cover of of the very first System Magazine in 1993. - System Magazine was the proving ground for @sidewalkhorse and I to go on to run the final incarnation of @readanddestroy magazine and then take that experience on to Sidewalk Magazine in 1995. - This period of UK skateboard history will be explored further in an up coming book by Neil Macdonald over @scienceversuslife - #salbarbier #mounthawke #mounthawkeskatepark #planbskateboards (at Mount Hawke) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn3vu_CspFA/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

- The House of Vans underneath Waterloo Station in London has sadly closed the doors for good now. - I didn’t go there that many times and when I did I somehow took it for granted that the facility would always be there for the London skate scene. I didn’t think about annual marketing budgets or ‘KPI’s or whatever else. It never occurred to me that anything on that scale could possibly be temporary. I was wrong. - Just goes to show, maybe it’s best not to take anything for granted and always be grateful for what we are given. A free indoor skatepark in central London?! Sounds unlikely. - Thanks for all the good times House of Vans. I wish I’d been there for more of them. - Pictures here are from just one evening in 2019 when I happen to have my point and shoot with me and my good friend Joe Habgood was cheerleading the Dean Lane takeover at the House of Vans and handing out cash for tricks. - Donny Barley Radlands 1996 - November 2022 marks 30 years since Radlands Indoor Skatepark opened in Northampton, England, UK. - Without overstating the point there really is no way to estimate the importance of this one particular place in UK Skateboarding History. - When the Ince Family decided to move the family operation from Milton Keynes Bus Station to a backstreet warehouse in the nearby town of Northampton they were taking a huge risk. It certainly paid off for those of us that would turn up week after week, month after month and year after year to witness the very best skateboarders in the world. - Carl Shipman Nottingham Bus Station Early Mid Nineties - My recent conversation with Matt at @welooksideways Podcast touched upon the subject of The System Magazine. - There were three issues of The System in the early nineties before @sidewalkhorse and I managed to get ourselves roles making the last ‘phase’ of @readanddestroy - Issue One had Sal Barbier at the first version of Mount Hawk Skatepark on the cover. - Issue Two had the Birdhouse team composed of Willy Santos, Ocean Howell, Mike Frazier and our stand-in for Tony Hawk, Frank Messman on the cover. Reservoir Dogs really was the film of the moment. - Issue Three had Bradley Garner liberating his legs in Milton Keynes on the cover. - Carl was a great sport and agreed to meet us at Nottingham Bus station for the cover of issue Four (which I guess would have been horizontal?) with our photo copied graphics and crazy ideas. But we ended up using the picture to announce our arrival at RaD in RaD instead.
