TIARA ALERT: The Princess of Wales wore Queen Mary's Lovers Knot Tiara for the banquet during the state visit from France at Windsor Castle in the United Kingdom on 8 July 2025.
@catherinecambridge: #that teeny tiny pin what is it omg !!
I think it's the rosette pin for the French Order of National Merit but I don't know enough about orders to know why she would wear the pin but not the sash.
Apparently only the highest level (Grand Cross) of the Order of National Merit includes a sash and Kate was awarded the Grand Officer which is one level below that.

Hi! Are Cambridge Lover's Knot and Queen Mary's Lover's Knot different tiaras? If so, who has the Cambridge version?
Yes, they are two different tiaras! I keep meaning to do a post with all of the different versions but I never get around to it.
The original Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara was a wedding gift to Princess Augusta, Duchess of Cambridge, (below left) in 1818 from her Hesse-Kassel family. It was inherited by her daughter, Grand Duchess Augusta of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and then to her granddaughter, Crown Princess Jutta of Montenegro in 1916.
The tiara was sold at some point and in 1981 it was bought by Princess Marie Gabrielle von Waldburg zu Zeil who still owns it. The original was most recently worn by her daughter-in-law, Princess Mathilde, (below right) in 2018.
Princess Augusta was Queen Mary's grandmother and she must have really liked it because she had a replica of the tiara made for herself. At the time the original was owned by her aunt, Grand Duchess Augusta, who would leave her the Cambridge Sapphire Parure. I assume she already knew that she was inheriting the sapphires instead of the pearls so went ahead and commissioned her own version of the tiara.
Queen Mary's version was made in 1913 by E. Wolff & Co. for Garrard using diamonds and pearls from other tiaras that she had dismantled. It has diamonds along the bottom and between each knot instead of pearls. It also had upright pearls above each knot like the original but she later had those removed. This is the tiara now worn by the Princess of Wales.
Queen Mary's version is superior in my opinion because of the way it tapers down around the wearer's head. I hate flat tiaras and so did Queen Mary.
