Monotropa Uniflora
“Also known as the ghost plant, Indian pipe, or corpse plant.
Unlike most plants, it is white and does not contain chlorophyll. Instead of generating energy from sunlight, it is parasitic, more specifically a myco-heterotroph. Its hosts are certain fungi that are mycorrhizal with trees, meaning it ultimately gets its energy from photosynthetic trees. Since it is not dependent on sunlight to grow, it can grow in very dark environments as in the understory of dense forest. It is often associated with beech trees.
The complex relationship that allows this plant to grow also makes propagation difficult.
The plant is sometimes completely white but commonly has black flecks and a pale pink coloration. Rare variants may have a deep red color.”
cant not reblog ghostpipe you know
Leaving London for a week–– I always miss the city, looking forward to being back already (and who can blame me, just look at this light in the library)
maybe if you bundled yourself up and went for a walk out in the cold then came back inside with rosy cheeks and cool skin and warmed yourself up with a nice warm cup of herbal tea with honey maybe then you'd calm down
this summer
- buy a paddle board & use it to chill on the neary lakes with a book in hand
- press more plants
- hang out with my grandma; i want her to teach me the accordion and sewing
- be a good little research assistant
- more pilates, love that shit
- more time laying on grass and moss
- less screen, in fact, i need to downgrade to a less fun phone
- so many books i want to read, starting with doctor zhivago
update:
- totally bought that paddle board on a whim before travelling to van island and it was such a fun part of our trip! moresby loves riding on it with us :,)))
- did not press very many plants, but i did learn how to pin butterflies and moths so thats a new hobby that i love.
- i did indeed hang out with my grandma 😊 she got a new place this spring and it was such a joy to visit her!!
- many many forest walks happened this summer!! much moss and grass was laid upon
- i upgraded my phone AHAHHA
- i did read quite a few books, though not as many as i would have liked to!!
And with the closing of September comes Summer’s gentle mourning // Part 8

sometimes I see pictures from when I was younger and it makes me wonder why I spent so much time hating myself. sweet little baby me. I was still growing. I was still learning. I was still getting used to my own skin. I didn’t deserve that
so i was given the opportunity last spring to do an undergrad research project on mycorrhizae, which is totally up my alley. i decided to do it, but i was not ready for how much work it was going to be. i am so behind in writing lol like– writing my discussion in 6 days behind.
it all worked out - I got an A thank god. I thought I might get a C or worse LOL my supervisor for the project is also my boss this summer, and it would have been a little embarrassing to work with her if I had gotten a bad grade :,)
