Snow on the beach
My tears ricochet
guys, the second half of ‘BLUE’ by Billie Eilish is lawlight coded. like. come on. i have to make an analysis about it. hear me out.
‘You were born bluer than a butterfly
Beautiful and so deprived of oxygen’
The first lines meaning, Light was born good, raised good, but always felt something was missing. He felt the world needed justice but didn’t know how to make his feelings known.
‘Colder than your father’s eyes
He never learned to sympathize with anyone’
Even though Sorichiro isn’t necessarily cruel towards him or even his family, Light finds himself comparing what he knows about himself to his father, constantly wishing to “help” with the Kira case and letting everyone around him know he wants to follow in the footsteps of his father. He knows Sorichiro won’t give up on trying to figure out who Kira is, and knows he would be heartbroken if he found out it was actually his own son, more or less.
‘I don’t blame you, but I can’t change you
Don’t hate you, but we can’t save you’
The first line ‘I don’t blame you, but I can’t change you’ is almost like L is speaking directly to Light. I imagine L knows what Light is feeling concerning justice and how the world views it. He knows Light’s thoughts and compares them to his own view of justice. The second line, ‘Don’t hate you, but we can’t save you’ is like L has never hated Light for who he chose to become surrounding his own beliefs around the justice system. ‘But we can’t save you’ could be symbolic for the fact Light has already surrendered himself to the Death Note and risked the lives of thousands in order to become someone/ something great.
‘You were born reaching for your mothers hands
Victim of your fathers plans to rule the world”
The second line of sort of self explanatory, describing that Light is not a king, a god, nor a perpetrator. He’s the victim. He was taken hostage by his mind to “rule the world”. Maybe the first line is what Light thought of himself to always be, born to be good. Born to reach for your mothers hands and love her and love everything because you were never raised in any other way. But those things were stolen by the career his father chose, to catch the wrong. It’s not that his father ruined his outlook on his entire life, but what if his father wasn’t the chief of police? He would have never met L. He would have never outsmarted half the task force and tricked L into believing he was someone he really wasn’t. He wouldn’t have wanted justice.
‘Too afraid to step outside
Paranoid and petrified of what you’ve heard’
Again, Light obviously can’t let the world know he’s Kira. He’s not meticulous, he’s afraid to let anyone he knows discover who he actually is. Because then his whole plan would fail. His thoughts and intricate attention to detail would collapse. He’s paranoid.
The next lines are like L is talking about himself:
“But they could say the same ‘bout me
I sleep only three hours each night means only twenty-one a week, now’
When I heard the second line I immediately thought of L. Who else could this song be about? The first line explores Ls past, as if people used to say the exact same things about L, about how he was paranoid to step outside, let the world know who he was, discover his idea of justice. He’s more like Light then he would like to think. Light is the only person L has ever had to compare his intelligence to his entire life.
‘And I could say the same ‘bout you
Born blameless, grew up famous too
Just a baby born blue, now’
Like I was saying, L and Light are so similar. And L knows this. He constantly sees himself in Light, even when he doesn’t want to. Light was born blameless, like L. Light is Kira, therefore he is famous. L is L, and is also famous. Light was born blue, meaning he was born with the same thoughts L was. L never wanted to be bad. L was raised to be good. Like Light was.
Maybe I’m delusional, maybe I’m crazy, but I can’t stop thinking about the coincidence. If you haven’t heard the song, PLEASE LISTEN TO IT. IT WILL MAKE SENSE.
y’all know the scene in ‘the batman’ when selena is wearing that red bob wig and she’s strutting through the club super dramatically? real mello-like right there
if he ain’t queer i’m outta here
death note au where mello is a super famous pop star selling out venues all across the world and matt plays football for a very well known team and they cross paths at the super bowl
no it’s nothing i’m just thinking about the differences between mello and nears different emotions on their sculptures
still getting used to digital art
i’ve always imagined mello as being super depressed and just down in the dumps after surviving the explosion and matt just always assisting to mello and supplying him with whatever he needs because i think the overall shock of surviving something that traumatic would surely drive him just a little crazy… right?
and i also remember seeing a post, i don’t remember who’s it was (my bad :/), about matt being super worried about mello that he slept on a recliner next to the couch where mello rested and woke up with a sore neck and mello was like “my assistant has to get good sleep in order to help me somehow” and so they both ended up sleeping in matt’s bed together from then on and slowly fell in love. idkkkk i just found it kinda sweet that it would end up like that haha!!
what’re your thoughts?? btw i love your art :)
100% with you on Mello being depressed after the explosion. Why the hell wouldn't he be? He lost all of his hard work in a single night. He probably shut down completely for a couple of days. In case you didn't see yet, I made a little something about his metal breakdown a while ago. I'm still getting really emotional about this.
And yeah, that really is a sweet idea!! Though, realistically, I think there's not much room for romance with one person being constantly on the verge of screaming due to both an open large surface area burn wound and a fresh unprocessed emotional trauma. Thought about this for a bit, on how my 2.1 guys would deal with the whole situation.
Especially when the wounds are fresh, Mello needs to be kept warm at all costs as he risks hypothermia from his thermal regulation being all messed up by his skin not being able to cope. Ideal premise to share some body heat with cuddles if there wasn’t a fucking huge hurting open wound involved. Matt maybe organises some infrared lamps for the day and they sleep under the same blanket at night but with minimal contact and the lights off for Mello to be able to sleep at all without the red lamps shining down on him menacingly.
If Mello talks, he's passively or straight up openly aggressive towards Matt and shoots some awfully hurtful things his way. After a particularly nasty lash out, they’re both laying in bed at night and this is all Mello can manage as an apology:
----- My other socials Commission Info Let's have some Ko-Fi! 🍵
me when im totally normal over the fact matt was supposed to live in mellos plan.
whatever the fuck he was doing....he was rlly doing it uh
ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm hiiiiii turned a vaguely homoerotic poem i made about a mosquito i didn't want to kill into. this. yay 👍
i just found out that after l died, light hallucinated him talking to him and i haven’t gotten over that.
like it makes me wonder how many other times light saw him; possibly in the dark corner of his room when he couldn’t sleep? maybe in the bathroom mirror after a pitiful, cold shower?
nobody understands how insanely fascinated i am by this.
yes guys you don’t understand how much i love the death note symbolism please keep posting
It kind of breaks my heart reading this and realising that Mello's hard work studying and working to become number one was virtually impossible.
Mello wasn't just going against another orphan who put in relentless hours studying to be smart, he was going against an orphan who was naturally born smart and also contending with a divine influence who gifted Near his intelligence.
It wasn't a fair game from the start.
But the fact Mello was only just behind Near and he wasn't 'blessed from above' or born a natural genius speaks volumes about Mello's sheer will and determination. The fact Mello didn't get any advantages and would only score 2 or 3 points less then Near on a test is mesmerising.
death note is about nothing and it is also about everything. death note is my worst enemy who is my best friend. death note is my secret mistress that I am ashamed to be seen with in public even though she is a world-famous celebrity. death note is my morning and death note is my night. my stars my moon and my sun. death note is the sustaining water of life itself and death note is the vengeful drought. death note is both the calm and the storm, hope and despair commingled. death note cradled my head as I was forced into this world and death note will usher me through the darkness once my time has run out.
for me, having a brand new death note adaptation wouldn’t be so bad. as long as they include everything that actually happened in the manga, that is. and possibly more scenes with the side characters. more horror. more angst. more bloodlust. it wouldn’t hurt, right?
brand new actors? accurate cast ages?
raw emotion?
religious trauma?
or possibly… an adaptation??
