Laying her head against Calâs, Mira frowned. âYouâre not being weird; the world is being weird. When everyone disappearedâŠwe tried to move on; did our best to continue in our lives even though it felt like our very souls were being ripped apart.â She couldnât speak for herself, exactly. They had been lucky. But she knew her dad had dealt with guilt over Peter. That her Mum had lost some friends from her MI-6 days. James his uncle and some of the Commandos. A turn of events that had apparently hit his mother hard. For all the times Bex had lost either Steve or Bucky, she had always had the Commandos by her side. Losing them was something completely new.
âAnd thenâŠjust when it seemed like we were finally finding our footingâŠeveryone came back. And donât get me wrongâŠthat was a great thingâŠbut itâs hard. You turn your life upside down, start to come to terms with things, and then just like thatâŠitâs changing again. Itâs okay to be upset. And even a little resentful. Donât ever let anyone tell you otherwise.â
Reaching for the room service menu (as Cal most definitely needed to eat), she frowned when she saw her phone light up. EJâs face displayed across the screen. With a roll of her eyes, she ignored it and handed the menu to Cal. Wasnât he on a school trip with Peter and Ned? What could he possibly need? âWe need dessert. The most decadent, chocolate filled one they have.â
Cal smiled and kissed the top of Miraâs head. They had grown in the past few years. Though that was to be expected. When half the world was gone, priorities changed. The desire to party had gone down and was replaced with the need to hold onto the people around him. His family and close friends. The world was smaller in so many ways.Â
âIf weâre being decadent, we should get one of each.â He looked it over. âLord, they have strawberries and cream. This is my kind of room service.â
When her phone lit up again, Cal looked over at it. âYour broâs really insistent right now.â
