Abundant bindweed threading through the hedges in my back garden. Forgotten places holding homes for pollinators from far and wide, the convolvulus hawk moth, thorn-tailed and inhabiter of nicotiana. Waiting for spells, a witch's bindings from those who would bind, dried petals for amulets and long cords for tying. Witches meet your ally.

Kozma Prazhsky in the Czech Chronicle (XII century) reported that the Slavs prayed to trees in sacred groves.
A similar observation was made by the German chronicler Helmgold (XII century), who described the life and customs of the Polabian Slavs. One of the veneration of trees among the Eastern Slavs, it is mentioned in the "Life of Constantine of Murom", and John Chrysostom spoke about the facts of the existence of special prayers to trees among the Slavic people.
This practice is well known even today in Christianity. People didn't throw away their praying rituals of the past... Gods or a God, no matter what you believe or how, are great.

Page from my ever-so slowly growing, green grimoire. This week, I've been learning about bilberries! Apparently, they are fairly tricky to find in England. I think there's been only a couple of times I've been out for a nature walk and said 'oh look, wild blueberries' and maybe now I realise they could've been bilberries. If I do come across any, I'll stash them in the freezer, then bake them in a pie when I have enough... I mean, it's probably more attainable to dry them and use in loose incense blends for Jupiter related spells. Which spells have you used bilberries in, fellow witches? I'd love to hear <3
We marvelled at Pentre Ifan in Pembrokeshire, South Wales for the Summer Solstice. Blessings of the shining season to all! Said to be a burial chamber...however no human remains have been found at this site so this incredible megalith would have had another purpose... Folklore will tell us, this is a gate to the Otherworld, the land of the Tylwyth Teg (Welsh for the Fair Folk) . A 'capstone' is balanced by genius on three upright stones. As I sat there warmed in rare sunshine, I felt a veil thin between our human world of activity and that of fae kind. It was easy to drift away into a dream like state and easy still to stay there... If I did I wouldn't be writing this in 2024 but perhaps 3024! For time in the land of the fair folk passes slowly as a thousand sunsets and if you ever managed to return from a trip you'd find all your loved ones past. Such is the warning from folklore which I minded!
The solar and lunar alignments of Pentre Ifan appear to be complex. Most mention an association with the Winter Solstice. If anyone has more they can share on this, I'd love to know )O(

For so long I had wanted to visit Wistmans Woods. On Dartmoor (National Park, UK) this is one of the last remaining patches of ancient woodland before the land was cleared for agriculture. Old gnarly oaks are huddled stunted together like a moot of elder ents, swathed in mossy beards and clad in lichen patches. If you have the fortune to tread these wild woods, go softly of foot. Piskies and fellow Good Neighbours will remember if you don't!
