The Final Chapter - Home
After many, many moons, I finally finished writing A Place Amongst the Wolves. There is a special surprise at the end of the notes <3
The air sucks out of the room. His throat dries suddenly. Palms and feet grow cold and clammy as if doused in ice water before movement catches Lambertâs eye.
Crow writhes, sobbing quietly under the monsterâs magical and tight grip. They twist and turn in its grasp, then claw toward its legs. Whether theyâre doing it to escape or to attack the thing, itâs hard to tell.
The large, grey figure makes the most eardrum-shattering, high-pitched, whistle-like shrieking noise heâs ever heard them make, causing Lambert to slap his hands over his ears. They begin to try to stand again as they push through pain and that sound continues. Their back arches uncomfortably far back while that magical force keeps them tethered down by their neck. Flesh sizzles, burning under the dark matter surrounding it. They struggle and struggle fruitlessly against the Rykithâs magic who simply laughs until its attention is caught.
 Wings flutter outside. Dozens, maybe more. Through the open windows and the blown-in entrance of the Great hall, clouds of darkness pour inside. A murder of crows flock into the space, shattering the stillness and struggle with guttural cawing and angry clamoring.Â
Lambert only watches, slack-jawed in fear and awe, as what seems like over a hundred of the deep obsidian birds swarm Coenâs body. The Red Wolf is unable to move, to scream, anything as he watches helplessly from the cold cobblestone floor. Itâs hard to tell what the creatures are doing and it only raises his hackles further, that need to get over there gnawing at him.
