A tip for any therian wanting to be closer to their theriotype, no matter what it may be:

Be sustainable.

You may be a bug, a fish, a mammal, a reptile, or something else. But you are a creature. Take care of your home, be it small or big.

Take a clipping of a herb next time you buy it, and regrow it so you don't have to buy them anymore. Learn basic foraging, and opt for natural snacks or ingredients if you can. Learn to mend clothes instead of throwing them away, and when they're beyond repair, turn them into patches and make something new. Collect rainwater for plants, or maybe even filter it to drink. Compost waste if you can.

Do what you can to protect and help your home through small and big actions. Be it creating a large garden to avoid having to buy and waste food, or choosing to patch up a cool t-shirt with a hole instead of throwing it away. Our actions are harmful, but we can try to lessen it. Take care of our homes and our kin, and make a change or two.

I feel like my transness intersects with my coyote identity.

Like I'm masculine but not a man. A male like an animal? Like a male coyote. You don't call male coyotes "men" do you? Lol.

And the way male coyotes are, well, male is very different from the way humans are male. Men.

None gender with left male.

Does anyone else find that their trans identity is tied into their therian/otherkin identity?

How have you navigated the relationship between the two?

yes yes yes thissss! I’ve felt this for the longest time and didn’t have a word to describe it until recently. I’ve seen it called kingender and genderNH (for nonhuman).

I call myself transmasc instead of a trans man, even though I feel my masculinity is reasonably binary. It’s just not human binary.

My maleness is a reptilian maleness, orthogonal to human maleness in many physiological and cultural ways. Flamboyance is male for a peacock, an anole, and I’m drawn to the drag queen art because of its similarity to the kind of displays male reptiles put on. Like, tell me this isn’t a sequin dress.

In my day-to-day life I wear clothing that’s as sensory-neutral for me as possible, and I’ve always gone for a more neuter/null presentation for this body. Like, I’m wearing grey sweats and an old baggy t-shirt right now. I got top surgery because I intensely disliked the mammalianness of breasts, the discomfort of them, the weight that wasn’t supposed to be there. I couldn’t wear sequins all the time, they’d irritate me, and I dislike being read as female.

But I also like costume and colourful clothes, and once in a while, I wanna go out and put on feathers and sparkles, while still being noticeably male. For me it wouldn’t be about performing femininity, but performing a different style of masculinity for delight, for a show. (Okay, and maybe a little satire towards the political establishment, because we stay silly :3)

...imagine a queer therian open mic night though. Drag lizards, coyote poets, all sorts of critters being Ourselves.
