Well, fuck this city (Hawkins), I'm moving to Saskatchewan (The cottage)
its so crazy to be in this timeline because i had tons of byler doubt but i never thought they'd fuck up the rest of the story this bad. i thought surely they'd figure out some way to weasel a good-ish ending in there. or at least one that felt like an ending. i neeeeeever even considered them killing jane because it's such a blatantly terrible, lazy, predictable, toxic way to end it.
aaaaaaaaand honestly i didn't think they had the stomach to kill off the characters they spent ten years traumatizing. then they killed the most traumatized girls in the entire show, a bunch of innocent pregnant women, and... spared ted fucking wheeler. underestimated their woman hater levels apparently! last time i give a straight man the benefit of the doubt and assume he thinks women are people, we clearly are not there yet as a society & they think it's a stroke of untethered genius to view women as concepts and tools and weapons and plot devices to further a dude's ""development"" tho calling anything mike had development seems laughable given how much of a non-character he turned out to be in canon.
kali deserved better, jane deserved better, i will continue to be furious about that
how did the writers not realize when they were writing jancy’s breakup that it applied to mike and el just as much—if not more—than it applied to nancy and jonathan???
like oh, their relationship’s foundation was shared trauma? and they don’t actually have much in common? and they’ve been bottling up their true feelings since s4 instead of talking about them? and discussing their issues + breaking up was what finally relieved them of all this pressure to perform in a romantic relationship? right right… right…
Thinking about how El getting killed off also ruins Hopper’s story. He spends the whole show blaming himself and feeling guilty and responsible for the death and suffering of his loved ones. He forms a beautiful relationship with a new young girl in his life only to be… proven right? That he is responsible of the suffering of his loved ones bc he couldn’t stop his new daughter from fucking killing herself??? Like what is the message here… “Maybe you really do fuck up your loved ones’ lives because they suffer and die when you try to extend an olive branch.” God this fucking show. Messaging so unbelievably bad. Like can we acknowledge how they’re basically promoting and justifying teen suicide?
I just know that Ted Wheeler was shipping Byler but like in a homophobic way you know
obsesssedddddd with the mike in camazotz with max instead of holly idea. tearing down the picturesque prison world where everything is beautiful and nothing is real. going under the surface in the effort to come up gasping on the other side. the concept of finally reaching the bloodred void and realizing the door back to reality is only max’s way out. her theorizing that maybe he doesn’t need music, just something to tie him back to himself. so he closes his eyes, thinks back. flashes of the whole party get clearer and clearer but eventually it hones in on will, until it’s his own film reel of willwillwill, over the years, rapidfire montage of how much will means to him, and we see mike’s face at the end of sorcerer bleed into mike’s face now, except there’s tear tracks parallel down his face and a matching doorway back to will and max’s eyes widen, understanding breaking like first dawn, and she gives him one last crushing hug before they both go home. they wake up and she and lucas have their tearful reunion before will takes mike aside to check on him and catch him up on what’s been going on while he’s been out and mike is just Looking at him with a smile we’ve never seen on him before and will gently asks what happened in there and mike just says you saved me. and will frowns like what and glances at his hands like he’s talking about will killing the demogorgon but that makes no sense so he repeats himself. how did you escape? how did you find you way out? mike says easy, it’s you. it’s always been you for me. and will is so confused but mike just whispers, you saved me. and will shakes his head and replies, that’s what we do. and mike leans forward and will’s expecting a hug but mike kisses him. title credits
been converted to a henderhop shipper btw and now i'm mad about yet another thing fuck this chungus life made her the unwitting beard to her brother's soulmate instead of letting her actually nerd out with someone who knows you lose a woman when you forget to cherish her
I think the most annoying thing about this season for me is how they managed to screw up the wiseone dynamic and ALSO sideline El and Henry’s dynamic (and Kali, but that's a whole other laundry list of issues).
I personally don't believe that they just 'gave' Will El’s dynamic with Henry. Jamie said himself that Vecna views El as an equal, but Will as more of a toy/plaything, and I think that distinction IS clear in the show in the way he treats/speaks to them. However, they should have delved more into these dynamics and differences.
El relates to Henry due to their experience in the lab with Brenner, but she has never been under the Mind Flayer's control. That's why (how I see it) she's unable to reason with him at the end of s4. Will relates to being under the Mind Flayer's influence, but can't truly understand how Henry’s experience with Brenner made him more susceptible to the Mind Flayer's control. That's why his pleading with Henry in the finale falls a little flat, because he doesn’t know or understand Henry’s full story.
El and Will were both equally needed in unveiling Henry’s backstory. They should have had El exploring his memories in the lab, while Will explored his memories with the Mind Flayer/Patty (because of Creelby/Byler parallels), and have them working together to understand Henry’s story and help him. They should have been paired up all season, that way they could kill two birds with one stone and deal with both dynamics at the same time.
My point is, neither of them alone are enough to reason with Henry, because they each parallel a different part of his story, and they just. Didn't do anything with either dynamic.
Instead, they reduced wiseone to Henry choosing Will because he was weak (ignoring their similarities/parallels until the last second, which they don't even go into), have El completely emotionless/unconflicted about Henry despite their shared trauma (which is never brought up again despite it's importance in s4), and have Kali barely relevant in the Henry of it all, only there as a messenger to tell El to kill herself (despite her own likely unique experience with Henry/the lab). It's just annoying because, in my opinion, these are THE most important dynamics in the show, and instead of developing them, we spent a billion years with Holly and her friends.
jonathan finding out robin came out to steve and he was okay with it and being like “what the fuck he called me a queer a couple years ago”
In 2012, Dustin Henderson (42) is a scientist who moves to Gravity Falls to study anomalies. He is trying to figure out a way to enter Dimension X after speculating that a gate has been opened there.
El Hopper (42) has been travelling through Dimension X after since Ford Pines found her when she was sixteen after destroying the Upside Down. Together, they traversed through the Multiverse where El witnessed an infinite version of Hawkins with one consistency: Dustin Henderson.
When Dustin comes across Stan Pines, he comes to the conclusion that he is the person who has been trying to open the gate to Dimension X. Believing he can fix the machine, Stan and Dustin work together to open a portal to Dimension X. Dustin believes that El is still out there, and won't let anyone stop him.
hey (true*) conformitygate enjoyers? watch i saw the tv glow, they do it on purpose in that film
the idea of el being "childhood magic" or whatever worked with the season 1 ending (before the christmas bit obvi) because the message does actually come across. theres many reasons it doesnt work now but the main one i think of is the fact moving on from childhood when you are twelve is a much more clear image. seeing a 16? year old girl killing herself after already growing into herself (not fully of course with all the end of the world stuff going on..) does NOT get that message across. in fact el as a character hasnt been childlike since season 3 - and even then they were using teen tropes so not even?? and i dont think a character who isnt even childlike anymore can still represent the magic of childhood
and with mikes point of view having his loss of eleven be his loss of childhood (first of all theres a very obvious gripe to have with this ridiculous explanation the duffers use for her death when mike DOESNT move on. so what? mike loses his childhood and doesnt accept it? that doesnt make any sense as a narrative) it also worked miles better at the end of season one when he was also 12 years old. its just like ET, imagine elliot was a 16 year old - its message wouldnt hit the mark as easily.
if they really wanted to make els death be a coming of age metaphor (which also is wuite different from the "loss of childhood magic" that the duffers refer to.. because again that just is not associated with a teen narrative but a coming of age one is..) , theres so many other ways to do so and its crazy that this group of writers didnt see that
willel drunk at the gay club dancing to madonna, twirling each other around and giggling, using telekenisis to spill drinks on ppl and laughing hard asf
It really sucks how 99.999 % of the Stranger Things fandom don’t remember Jonathan Byers crying alone in his bed hugging himself because he thought his little brother was dead and his mom was going insane. It sucks even harder that the Duffer brothers have no recollection of it either.
el killing herself after having no agency over her own life. kali dying to prop up a white character. erica being completely ignored and tossed aside. nancy ending up single because you cannot be independent while in a relationship. saying that mike was the only one who ever understood el while that’s plainly false. completely forgetting about vickie. joyce getting maybe a few lines in the finale. making sure kali goes through more trauma before killing her. max barely getting any screen time. no elmax hug. refusing to give closure to a sapphic relationship. robin being sidelined from ep6+. making el to wear a skin-tight suit the entire episode. calling multiple female characters bitches, including minors. suzie doesn’t exist anymore apparently. saying how erica can take care of herself because she’s “tough”. reducing multiple female characters into love interests. and this is supposed to be… empowering? you want to tell me this is not plain and obvious misogyny? yeah ok
