Morning Brew: Nike & Chronos

“I’ve been doing alright. Spending more time with Aubrey, lately. She’s getting better, responding to the new treatment, which is great.I’m glad to finally get some time away from work, thought. It’s nice to not have to be constantly working.” Nike nodded, looking over at the book she had placed on the counter. It had been a gift from Mena, who was an enthusiast of To Kill a Mockingbird. It had been sitting on her bookshelf for a few weeks, unopened so when Nike happened to stumble upon it while she was clearing out so files and random papers, she decided to give it a go. “To Set A Watchman. Harper Lee’s new book. I haven’t started it yet. I was planning to get some tea and sit out and begin it.”

“I’m not messing with the hazardous coffee contraption again. I have learned my lesson.” With a smile, the goddess shook her head. The last time she tried to mess with that machine, she ended up breaking it and had to quickly replace it before someone else realized that one of the pieces had fallen off. “It’s best just to stick with the trusty kettle.”

“She is?” news about Nike’s children always earned his full attention especially Aubrey and her treatments “that’s wonderful news, it’s also good that you’re taking a bit of time out don’t want you overworking yourself that doesn’t do anyone any good” he said sincerely. When she gave the book’s title he looked interested it wasn’t something he’d gotten around to yet but he intended to one day. “Ah, you’ll have to tell me how it is - I’m in search of some new literature to update my collection” extensive though it was new material always did interest him.

As she mentioned getting tea he pulled open the cupboard behind him and grabbed the container of teabags setting it out on the counter for her as well as moving away from the kettle with his own mug. “Good choice, I doubt Chiron would be too happy if another coffee machine randomly broke anyway I just boiled it so it should still be warm” he explained casually.

“Morning,” Nike nodded, closing the kitchen door behind her. She placed the book she had in her hand on the counter before she began to make her way to one of the kitchen cabinets to pull out one of the mugs. “How are you this morning?”

Lazy mornings such as this one were some of the things that Nike enjoyed about the fall. Autumn was a calmer time for Nike, so she liked to enjoy and take in as much as she could before things began to pick back up again. The days were no longer so grossly hot it was unbearable, but yet not too cold to enjoy the outdoors without having to put on layers. The perfect weather to just sit in a rocking chair with a good book, perhaps a blanket draped over her legs.

Out of all the voices he expected to hear hers was the last of them but it didn’t come as a bad surprise infact a positive one - Nike always did have that effect on his attitude he’d noticed. Automatically her question earned a warm smile, turning to lean his back against the counter so that he could look at her. “Pretty good actually, things have been quieter this week so more chance to stop by and see how things are going with the kids” he explained eyes drifting down to the book she’d set on the counter curiosity sparked.

“How about you? Reading something good?” he queried aiming to get the title though he couldn’t quite make it out from where he was situated. “You going to attempt to use the hazardous coffee contraption or sticking with the safe bet?” he asked jerking a thumb over his shoulder in the direction of the kettle behind him a teasing grin flashing over his features as he did so. Apparently as he’d learned they were both not the best when it came to some mortal pieces of technology.

Morning Brew: Nike & Chronos

The days were growing crisper, you could tell fall was setting in by the way the colours were beginning to shift and change around camp. Small details your grew to notice about the place especially when you weren’t frequently here, after all he still had other duties but today Chronos had decided to stop by Camp Half-Blood to check in on his (and the other) children. He still had a job and work to return to but that was one of the perks of being a God of time; you could go back whenever you wanted. For a while he’d been perched on the stone wall near to the Athena Parthenos watching the campers going about their days, training, studying and generally getting on with their lives.

Eventually deciding a warm drink was in order, led to his current situation - avoiding the coffee machine in the kitchen in favour of the kettle nearby. He never would understand how mortals used such devices and it was whilst he dwelt on these thoughts of perhaps learning to use the machine one day he made his drink, glancing up when he heard the door open behind him curious to see who might be here and half-expecting a camper “morning,” he greeted the newcomer.
