the soft buzz of a half-full cafe provides a pleasant distraction to the hunger sitting just in the bottom of the ghouls throat. wonders when she had last eaten, and decides it must have been over a month ago. knows she can push herself at least another week before things start getting risky. has to be more cautious now, in this strange future. 

the existence of so-called heroes had made things difficult for the half-ghoul. especially since she had been branded a villain. ( had tried to be angry about it, at first, but nothing came. hasn’t felt real anger since kanou. ) 

looks up as the cafe door opens, doesn’t need the bell to know someone was entering ( highly strung senses were often useful for detecting changes in her surroundings, even if they came ladened with paranoia ). can’t help the small inkling of shock that sits in her head. 

really, she tells herself, should have expected this eventually. 

“y’can’t arrest me.” knows the other will recognise her, even without the mask covering her lower face. the two had met enough times. scythe was, in truth, the only hero that alice had ever had a positive interaction with. although, all of her hero interactions involved her doing something decidedly amoral and them trying to stop her, but still. “i’m not doing anything illegal.”

The cafe had been recommended to Kaede by a colleague and after putting off visiting the place for what felt like ages, she’d finally followed the directions to the place that’s name had slipped her mind. For a few seconds, everything was fine but that was until blue eyes latched onto the other female and realization spread across her features.

It took everything in Kaede not to just burst out laughing when realizing whose cafe she’d just entered. Of course, she’d been off duty for the past hour and she was sure they both realized if it was anyone except the villain that she had been playing cat and mouse with for the past... however long, she’d arrest them on the spot.

A small laugh managed to eventually fall from Kaede’s lips as her head shook slowly, gaze falling to the ground as thoughts swirled around her mind before she finally responded. “I’m just here for some coffee.” The first response was murmured but the second was a bit louder as she moved to sit at the closest empty table to where the female was, her gaze not once leaving her.

“Trust me, I had a hell of a patrol and I think that a thug who  D E C I D E D  it’d be  G R E A T  to take on a Pro Hero randomly dislocated my shoulder. I just want some caffeine and possibly a bite to eat before I have to go to the hospital to have them pop it into place.”

Perhaps her statement was too detailed but even despite their stance of hero and villain, it wasn’t like they hadn’t talked before. It was just in more of a  . . .  professional setting and one that was dangerous.
