The one who was meant for more.
The Past:
For Michael, life had always found a way to push him down. Born the same year as Stephen and Coraline, Michael grew up next to his cousins, closer than anything, until it was time for Stephen to learn what being heir to a house truly meant. Until that point, Michael had never really taken into consideration that his cousin, as close to him as a brother, would soon have the responsibility of his family and several others upon his shoulders. And for all he was able to do or achieve, he realized that nothing he could do would mean anything compared to his cousin.
So Michael began preparing to leave. Though he loved his family, he refused to stay bearing the knowledge that nothing he could do would ever be enough. He wanted the chance to be successful. He wanted the opportunity to be important in some way. Michael wanted the chance to be his own man, find love, mean something to someone beyond being the wrong cousin. When war broke out and the Foresters sequestered themselves, Michael thought he had his opportunity to leave, though he never made it past the estate walls before the spell swept over the six houses.
The Present:
Finding himself in a strange new world, Michael refused to be beaten by the newness. Determined to become accustomed to the new time he found himself foisted into, Michael watches everything with a careful eye. Considering this the opportunity for a new life he had wanted, Michael left his estate immediately upon awakening, immersing himself within the new world. Having grown used to the wonders of the new world, Michael feels ready to return to the other members of the six houses, not sure whether he wants to help them or prove himself to them.
