I don't really like doing things like this, and I don't know if everyone's gonna like what I have to say, but I have to be honest. I don't quite get why people are quitting the rebornica fandom after the new video came out. Yes they are a horrible person and it's perfectly fine if you did that, I'm not judging, but also I'm so confused because it's not like almost everyone already didn't know. It's not exactly new that rebornica was shitty. I thought the whole point of people taking on the guardverse was to rewrite it into something non-toxic and reclaim it as a fandom and community. It hasn't belonged to rebornica for a very long time, and it's such a unique fandom because everyone gets their chance to redeem the characters to not be stereotypes or one-dimensional or just flat out badly written. Because it had potential to be such a good au. This isn't a "separate the art from the artist" statement I'm making, no, the art reflects the artist and it's obvious in how rebornica portrayed the characters. It's rewriting into a good piece of media without the original artist, making it your own. Yes, the influence is still there, but they're YOURS. They are YOUR version. Not rebornica's. And they'll never be rebornica's again. They have lost that privilege and absolutely no one should be looking up or defending their actions, and I certainly hope I never gave the impression that I was by drawing the gaurdverse. If you decide to let them go because of rebornica's actions, then go ahead, that's perfectly fine, truly. But if you decide not to, then you still have to hold rebornica accountable and realize how awful they were and how they portrayed these characters, and change the au for the BETTER. Recycle them into your characters. This is what I loved so much about this fandom, is that I believe these characters no longer belong to anyone. They're just old memories of early fnaf and having fun with the stories and making it our own. This fandom is basically just everyone posting their original versions of these characters, very very loosely based off of rebornica's versions. Dare I say they hardly ever belonged to rebornica in the first place. They're faceless names in a game and rebornica gave them faces and some us happened to like those faces and still use them to a point, Vincent being the one exception. My Vincent is not rebornica's Vincent, they simply share the same name. Almost everything else is different. You can love the characters and hate the creator, and it will always be bittersweet, and enjoying their work does not make you a horrible person or someone stepping into the sidelines to avoid accountability. The only way you'd be doing that is by actively defending or using rebornica's exact characters, stereotypes and fatphobic and racist shit and all, without changing it to be less disgusting.
I'll use Good Omens as an example—Neil Gaiman is a disgusting person and I do not support him in any way. But I still love Good Omens, and the fandom, and the characters. Liking media made from a bad person does not immediately make you a bad person. Supporting that person does. I will never buy a book from Gaiman, and I will never support or forgive him. Another parallel to rebornica—theyre mostly Terry Pratchett's characters. The same way the guards have become the fandom's rather than owned by a single person.
Detach from rebornica. They no longer own these characters. They didn't really even own them in the first place. I am sorry to the people they've hurt, and if you have been affected by them, I genuinely hope the best for you and your healing.
