2012 Conquista Malbec (Mendoza Argentina)

2012 Conquista Malbec

Enjoyed this wine eating Pepitos (http://www.pepitosrestaurant.com/) Mexican food [Tacos al Pastor] with family in the backyard.

Smell: Lots of fruit. Juicy. Very inviting. 

Taste: Lush, ripe fruit paired well with the spiciness of the Dinner. Raspberry, cherry and a hint of apple. Outstanding balance - just the right amount of acidity and tannins to encourage a second glass. Medium finish, lingers with a warm softness from the tannins.

Overall: This wine was perfect for dinner. Will come back to this wine again. Purchased locally at Costco for around $7.

Composition: 88% Malbec, 6% Bonardo, 3% Shiraz, 3% Merlot.

2010 Boomtown Cabernet Sauvignon (Washington State)

2010 Boomtown Cabernet Sauvignon. Enjoyed at the in-laws w/a mix of grilled burgers, fries and tortellini Alfredo (eclectic dining tonight).

Smell: Very subdued aroma. Not much on the nose. There was a hint vanilla and nondescript dark fruit. 

Taste: While the aroma fell short, Boomtown made up for it in taste with a well balanced wine. Black cherry and stone fruit had a deep earthy quality. There were pronounced tannins that blended well with a smooth acidity.

Overall:  I am not a big Cabernet fan, but this wine pulled me in. I poured the last drop of this bottle wanting more. I'd probably not recommend this to a friend that hasn't drank much wine - I think the complexity and mouth feel might be too much for someone just learning about wine. If you have a few Cabernets under you belt you'd probably enjoy this one too. Purchased on sale at South Lyndale Liquors (@southlyndale) for around $13.

2012 Yellow Tail Cabernet Sauvignon (South Eastern Australia)

2012 Yellow Tail Cabernet Sauvignon. Enjoyed lakeside w/grilled chicken, asparagus and oriental cabbage salad.

Smell: Blueberries and stone fruit (cherry w/a little apricot) dominate. Secondary notes of vanilla and cocoa that hint of an oak influence. 

Taste: The aroma gives foreplay to a very enjoyable wine. Acidity was low and tannins were surprisingly smooth for this Cabernet which added extra interest that kept me drinking it the rest of the night.

Overall: The engineering that goes into a Yellow Tail can not be denied. this wine tastes great. I'd definitely serve this at my next party or recommend it to a friend.  Can be bought almost anywhere for under $10.

2009 Trinity Oaks Pinot Noir (California)

2009 Trinity Oaks Pinot Noir. Enjoyed at the lake w/cheese burgers and Calico Beans [if you have never tried them - seriously good: http://goo.gl/dpIvk].

Smell: Raspberries and some citrus that lifts and brightens the bouquet

Taste: This wine was very drinkable. Mellow like a slow-jam. Low acidity with very little tannins. 

Overall: This wine I could consume as an everyday wine. I enjoyed it, but not much else to write home about. Can be purchase at a number of locations, but online I found it locally at Surdyk's: http://goo.gl/kDMCu for a very reasonable price.

2011 Brondello Sangiovese (Puglia IGT)

    2011 Brondello Sangiovese. Enjoyed w/Davanni's deep dish [http://www.davannis.com/].

Smell: Bread dough/Yeast over the top of berries

Taste: Pleasant fruit with enough acidity to excite your tongue without distracting you from the taste. Tannins where very subdued. 

Overall: Smooth and easy to drink. Would bring to a party or recommend to a friend. Can be purchased locally at Surdyk's: http://goo.gl/vZq0A
