Truly one of the worst crimes of the internet.

I want Zechs to say “And you always say this?”
It's so weird that Asuka reciprocating Shinji's feelings is a controversial take. Like, I don't think this was supposed to be up for debate 🤨
“If I can’t have all of you to myself, then I don’t want anything to do with you.” Pretty unambiguous. She wants him, and she’s not sharing. “He won’t even hold me.” She wouldn’t say that if she didn’t want him to hold her. People either just got a hate boner for Shinji, or they just want to ignore everything in the actual series to push their fantasies.
Grumbles to the tune of "This Will Be The Day"
i know theyre just for fun but god the number of times i see memes with rwb/y characters inserted in, Yang is always portrayed as stupid and lazy, it just gets irritating seeing how often the fandom fails to comprehend what her character is actually like
Yang’s Hair
Personal opinion, and probably not a popular one, but I miss Yang's hair being more yellow instead of honey blonde. And the new Semblance fire is nice, but I miss the Poser one, the way the fire looked and how her hair could glow so bright it was almost white.
Again, personal opinion. The new effect is cool and I’m glad for the people who prefer it. I just miss the old one.
(Also note she doesn’t have red eyes every time she uses her Semblance down below? Red Eyes =/= Semblance)
Yang: *is smart as fuck, especially in combat
Tai: lmao u dumb, try using your brain
Yang: *changes nothing, still smart as fuck
Ppl: Thank god for Tai teaching her good!
He taught her to not lose her cool and actually use her semblance smart like how she waited till the last blow to use it in the recent fight, how did y'all miss that?
Because there was never a reason not to use it the way she did. If anything using it at the last blow for one big punch falls into Tai’s “what if you miss” and actually makes her Semblance the crux of a fight, instead of being just a supplement of what she’s already doing like she used it before. It’s not like she ever intentionally took hits to power it, and so why not use it. And she did basically use it like she used to here, she didn’t save it for one finishing blow, she used it to set up and finish, just like she did against Junior and Mercury with the Dempsey Roll.
“Taught her not to lose her cool”
By insulting the embodiment of her soul? Newsflash, that’s not how you deal with emotions, and in fact just makes things worse. Name one time anyone got magically better by just being told to calm down. I’ll wait.
Tai’s advice didn’t do shit. She was still angry in Volume 5. It wasn’t until she confronted the source of her abandonment complex in Raven, reunited and made things okay with Blake, and was allowed to finally grieve and open herself up that she became more even-headed. Not that her anger ever actually hampered her combat.
Yang: *is smart as fuck, especially in combat
Tai: lmao u dumb, try using your brain
Yang: *changes nothing, still smart as fuck
Ppl: Thank god for Tai teaching her good!
FUCKING THANK YOU!!!!!!!
People keep stereotyping her and going on about how “she’s so much smarter”, “doesn’t let her emotions control her”. She was always a smart and tactical fighter.
Every single thing she did in the most recent fight that people say “oh she’s gotten so smart” she did way before Tai’s “wisdom”. She destroyed the ground with a shockwave in Yellow Trailer, she broke up the ground to put her opponent off balance against the twins and Neon, and she’s turned her Semblance on and off to get in one specific shot when she separated the twins. This is not new! (Though still freaking awesome.)
Please want to claim how she’s so much deeper than stereotypes and quote her trailer opening and then turn right around and stereotype V1-V3 Yang as a dumb, mindless rage machine who needed to have the essence of her soul insulted (the one that’s also praised as being so symbolic) in order to magically “get better”.
bit of salt sorry but i just so annoyed at how badly volume 4 has affected peoples interpretation of Yang like now any scene of her outsmarting an opponent will always be brought back to Tai like Yang has always been like this but nope guess Tai gets all the credit
well god we cant ever have a self-made woman ever
theres even a trope for that, thats how shitty and pervasive that idea is
3 volumes and a trailer showing skill, complex tactics, and perfectly valid uses of her Semblance, completely ignored because of the worst dialogue in the series by someone who wasn't even there.
HOLY FUCK.
I keep saying, Yang breaking or manipulating the ground to her advantage isn't new! Twice in Yellow Trailer, against the Nevermore while falling, against FNKI. It's not a coincidence, it's an established tactic in her toolset.
Now let's see the haters deny it.
Yang proving once again what I've been saying for years. Taking advantage of/breaking/manipulating the terrain to her advantage is one of her techniques, not just a happy coincidence. She used in it Yellow Trailer against the goons and then against the Twins. She used it to stop from falling with the Nevermore. She used it in Breach (the car). She used it against Team FNKI (at this point it should be obvious it wasn't "luck" but intentional). And now she uses it against Elm.
So before anyone attributes this to Tai's 'wisdom' or some change to her style, this shit ain't new for her.
Bumbleby worry
Guys. Bumbleby. I love it. I try to avoid talking about it on here, but I’m not gonna deny I adore it. But bees, guys, I’m seeing trends in the fanworks and posts (not Canon) that have been wearing on me for a while.
This is likely going to be controversial, and even some users here I like and respect are guilty of some of these things. But it’s bothering me enough that I gotta get it off my chest.
I do not see how one can praise a ship for the equality of the partners but reduce one to a satellite or “yes man” of the other. And that’s a lot of what I see in fanworks. Yang either isn’t really a character or she isn’t Yang. She’s Blake’s satellite. She has no motivation other than being gay for Blake and being her sidekick.
A lot of these fics and art take agency from her. She’s reacting, never acting. There’s writing about her being “strong” but only as an informed trait so that she can be written as the one needing saving, both physically and emotionally.
And that’s not how it is in Canon. It wasn’t Blake’s idea to tell Robyn. Blake wasn’t happy with Ironwood’s plans and choices and she voiced her reservations about bringing Robyn in, and her thoughts on doing the right thing in general. Yang saw those reservations and thought about them, trusting her partner’s judgement, then she suggested they tell Robyn the truth. It was not a situation of “Blake has an idea and Yang nods and goes with it”, it was an open and honest discussion about their viewpoints to understand one another (like a healthy couple), trusting one another’s judgement, and then implementing a plan that came from that understanding. But now I’m literally seeing posts gush about “Yang followed Blake’s plan, what a supportive girlfriend.” And that’s all it ever seems to be. Yang’s the supportive girlfriend, not an equal character in her own right.
Then there’s this boom in writing Yang as intelligent, recognizing the evidence from the Beacon arc of how well she did in school. Which would be great. But it’s often never anything more than a single superficial comment in Blake’s thoughts or dialogue and throughout much or the rest of many stories she never really gets to show that intelligence, leaving it as an informed trait.
And that’s not getting into the creepy power dynamic that’s started showing up. After Yang’s discussion with Weiss in V5, there was a huge influx of head canons of Yang as a submissive mess. And I’m not gonna go into where I stand on who’s the one who leads or not, but I will say that it is almost overwhelming in how often it’s written as if it’s some new idea going against the grain and making some big unique take. When everyone and their grandma writes it the same way, it’s not a subversion. It’s just another drop in the bucket.
But the creepy power dynamic that’s arisen from this surge is what’s concerning. It’s become less flirting and more like a competition of power. But one that’s written as horribly lopsided and humiliating for the loser. The whole “please step on me” thing isn’t supposed to be literal. And don’t get me started on the post I just saw of someone detailing Blake literally knocking Yang’s teeth out and Yang saying it was an honor. What the actual fuck?
I’m gonna link @xyxyz1112′s post because I think they said it best. Especially in their tags. (Hopefully they’re okay with that.)
Don’t get me wrong a dapper scene or a few is fine. It's great even (I saw a gentlewoman Blake idea that was awesome). But that shouldn’t be the entire relationship, or even most of it. Give it some back and forth, some light jokes, ridiculous shenanigans or fluffy domestic inter-play. An equal relationship is supposed to be just that, equal. In canon there is equal back and forth and nuance in when they’re smooth and when they get flustered (which both have done in equal measure). Shouldn’t fanworks reflect that?
Especially with all that nasty stuff on AO3 when searching for Bumbleby. Like, wtf?
I just had a little haunting moment when I realized there are people in this fandom who weren't alive during the time of All Your Base. There are people that can vote that are younger than that piece of history.
I am unsettled.
I’m confused as to why Ruby is always made out to be the academic genius in AUs and Yang is made out to be some jock or drop out. Ruby is the one that got into Beacon solely for silver eyes her fighting skills (athletic ability) while Yang got in for passing everything the normal way. Not to mention Yang is the only one in the team for which academics are never mentioned as a problem. She has notes out in class and is shown paying attention in class.
The absolute disdain I feel when I see shit like “Yang relied on her Semblance” or anything implying Yang fought like a reckless, brainless brute in V1-V3 is immeasurable.
No one said that before her Semblance was explained. But it is unnerving and incredibly frustrating seeing the amount of people who just see it parroted so often that they believe it, without actually looking at what actually happens in the show or thinking about how little sense it makes to claim reliance on a Semblance that does nothing to enable her to hit an opponent she couldn’t hit before using it and only makes her already powerful hits even stronger.
It’s really my fault. I’d spent so much time trying to focus on talking to the couple of people who actually would think, go back and rewatch, and pay attention that I’d forgotten about the regular morons. The ones who can’t see beyond stereotypes, the ones who’ve been spoon fed overly long exposition in anime explaining every single detail of a fight that without it they don’t see what’s happening beyond “East Asian martial arts or sword = the smart skilled/quick, tactical one” and “non-East Asian = dumb strong/slow unskilled brute”.
It’s just like dealing with those chucklefucks who think medieval European swords were heavy hunks of metal more used for bashing without any skill.
I am too tired to put up with willful ignorance.
no records no passport no id no birth certificate. no birthname, no gender! the only thing i’m legally classified as is “a problem”
