fascinating that hot chocolate packages appear in shauna's hallucination, alongside ears and other body parts, in a scene that otherwise heavily contrasts jackie's death hallucination. they're in a sterile grocery store with florescent lighting, alone but for the two of them, rather than in a warm, comforting cabin filled with firelight and their teammates. jackie is cruel and mocking, where shauna was kind and caring, the two both mouth pieces for words they would never say, but do because the other wants them to, needs them to. there are things anachronistic to the setting, warm hot chocolate for jackie (a reminder of civilization within the wilderness) and packaged body parts for shauna (a reminder of the wilderness within civilization), which serve as both comforts, reminders of an environment they thrived in and wish they could return to, and indications that what they're seeing isn't really real. there are other insertions (cabin guy, death's-head hawkmoths) that fully break emersion. omens of the near future. omens of death. but one is a man, a person, a symbol still of civilization (cabin, plane, ect), while the others is a swarm of insects (buzz! buzz! buzz!) that symbolizes the group, trapped and confined (by civilization) until they break free. the grocery store mirrors shauna's previous hallucinations, especially her final "shared" hallucination in the classroom, which is perhaps why she sees the hot chocolate packages, items that have no meaning outside of their presence in jackie's death hallucination. perhaps it's just a nod to the audience, foreshadowing of shauna's death in someway, or an indication that all of their visions are linked, even if they don't understand it
