How's life back in the US? Was it hard to switch from a somewhat nomadic lifestyle back to a home base?

It’s…good? Idk. I’m going to assume you sent this back before we were all locked down and everything was a dumpster fire?
It wasn’t really hard. I wanted a home base. That was a big part of why I came back. I deeply crave a sense of community and I want to feel embedded in a place and have people around me that I care about (clearly my extroverted, people-loving ass is THRIVING at the moment…).
But, I also didn’t want a job that tied me to being in one place; I wanted to work remote again so I could travel when I wanted, and not have to take time off work to do it.
I have that part sorted out now, which is great. I literally have my dream job now in terms of the lifestyle (re travel/work setup) I want to live, so I’m really lucky there. It’s a 100% distributed team, and barring two weekly meetings I can literally just work…when (and where) ever.
So uhhh when the world stops being the worst I will be able to travel again, but much less nomadic-like and more like…shorter term temporary stuff and trips I guess.
Like…I’d consider doing another stint of it, but traveling with Pumpkin is super stressful tbh (she’s an angel girl but she…is a dog, and she’s very needy, and she doesn’t like change and being alone and wants to be able to run outside off leash and stuff) so I don’t think I’d ever do it full time/to quite that extent again.
Ideally I’d love to be able to have someone who I really trusted, maybe who even had dogs, who genuinely wanted to hang out with for a little while, so that I could travel long term and she’d be happy while i was gone (”long term” meaning like…a couple weeks/up to a month MAX, and only long trips like that maybe 2x a year; I wouldn’t want to be away from her longer than that at one time). I want to travel but I genuinely think her coming with me stresses her the fuck out so I just wouldn’t want to put her through that again.
The thing that sucks is that person is…Mike, obviously, but I’m still planning on moving at the end of June if I’m ALLOWED TO. So I guess I just need to find a dog sitter that I really like in Austin and be ready to pay for a month of dog sitting if I want to travel again, idk.
God this became a really long post about how I’m codependent with my dog sorry lmao
Tl;dr is no it wasn’t hard to settle in—what was hard was realizing I hated my other job and that I don’t want 100% settled OR 100% nomadic. And then I got a perfect job that allows me to do both! But! Coronavirus!
