when tiana had, once again, told lottie that she would be working another town event the blonde had done notihng but sigh. she wasn’t mad at her best friend for being so hardworking, not by any means, but everyone needs a break once in awhile and it felt sometimes like if it weren’t for lottie, tiana would quite literally run herself into the ground. so while the blonde hadn’t put up a fight about it at the time, she had indeed made mental plans on how to go about dragging her best friend away from her booth once the festival rolled around. so here she was, tugging on tiana’s arm without any real force and giving her best pout. “tiaaa, come on. you know the girls can handle this - you gotta come see at least a lil bit of the festival,” she argued, glancing pointedly at the workers that were standing a smart distance away and keeping themselves uninvolved in lottie’s attempt at removing their boss from the booth. “one lap around - that’s all i’m askin’ for.” it would be the slowest lap around the fair grounds and the two girls would stop at everything lottie found even slightly interesting - but that didn’t need to be explained.

now lottie was never one to care about being too forward. did she prefer when things came directly to her and she didn’t have to be the one putting in the energy to get what she wanted? of course. but that didn’t mean she was against being the one to take the first move. years of being friends with tiana had taught her that. while her best friend may be more work driven than the blonde, lottie had picked up on enough to know that she can’t always just wish on a star and expect things to happen for her without putting in some effort (even if she dearly wished that was the way the world would work). taking a big breath, lottie straightened her shoulders and confidently walked over towards the boy she had been watching from afar for a few minutes, gathering the nerve to finally approach. “david gordon, right?” she asked, entirely for the sake of seeming professional and not even slightly because she wasn’t positive it was him. after spending the past week borderline stalking all of his social media profiles, lottie was absolutely confident in who this man was. “i’m lottie la bouff.” normally when introducing herself the blonde would say her name with an air of confidence that implied she should be well known already, but today the words lacked that bit of flair - a sign that she wasn’t as sure of herself as she was pretending to be. “i heard you were makin’ a movie... and i thought i should introduce myself to ya and perhaps talk to ya about what you planned to do for the costumes...” the st lover’s festival may not be the best time or place to shoot her shot at this, but when lottie saw him here she just couldn’t wait any longer.

once upon a time not having a date to an event like the st. lover’s festival would have had lottie staying at home, refusing to even show up for five minutes without someone on her arm, but over the years the blonde has done a lot of growing up. and with that she’s gained the knowledge that as much as she loves romance and everything that comes with having a date to things like this - there was actually a bit of a benefit to being solo. like for instance, she could go adn do whatever she wanted around the festival without having to check to make sure her date was on board. no pouting was needed to convince someone to go along with whatever whims her heart came up with. and of course there was the major plus of being able to flirt with just about anyone she pleased. not being stuck to spending time with just one person? now that was definitely a bonus worth considering. though, there were still the downfalls. and as she looked at the big teddy bears hanging above the games booths, the cons of being single started flooding back in. thankfully though, before lottie could get too deep in a self-pity pool, a familiar face caught her attention and the blonde practically skipped over towards him. “well if it ain’t a knight in shinin’ armor right here,” she starts as she loops her arm through jaqs and gives it a small tug to get his full attention focused on her. the smile on lottie’s face was bright and her eyes practically lit up her whole face as she looked between the boy and the prizes hung up on the wall. “think you’re up to the challenge of winnin’ me that teddy bear over there? the big one, of course, with the pink bow. don’t it look like it’s practically just beggin’ to be mine?” she was hoping that would be enough to convince him to play the silly little games for her - but lottie was prepared to pull out the big guns of her well tuned pout and puppy dog eyes if needed.

for all lottie has done a lot of growing up over the years, the one thing that has never changed is her heart. and the weakness she has for a handsome man. she’s tried to work on it, to get stronger at being able to hold herself back, but it has all been of no use. the moment her eyes land on a new beautiful potential bachelor, her heart starts racing and she’s hooked. which was how she felt right now, watching the stranger a bit away and all but swooning over him even from afar. it didn’t take long for her to decide she was going to approach him - the decision was made practically the moment she realized he was currently alone - and as she got closer she couldn’t help the hopeful thought of maybe this could be fate right now. “well hello, sugar,” she greets, eyes dropping quickly to his hand and making note of the lack of wedding band. “i know this might seem a bit strange, but i’ve been tryin’ to work up the nerve to go on one of these rides but i don’t have anyone to go on ‘em with. and you know it’s always easier to do somethin’ like that with a partner. any chance you mind comin’ along with me?” it wasn’t actually true, lottie didn’t really have much desire to go on the rides, but it seemed like the perfect excuse to steal a bit of time with the stranger.

the mental list lottie had made of things to do at the festival was as long as it usually was for these types of events and it only seemed to be growing as she made her way around the fair grounds. of course almost everything on her list required having someone with her, so as she walked she kept her eyes peeled for any familiar faces - or unfamiliar ones that were cute enough to be worthy of striking up a conversation with. finally spotting one of her favorite people, lottie’s quick to make her way over towards him and snake an arm around his own. “there you are,” she greets, as if she had been looking for him in particular - which might not be the case, but she had been hoping to run into oliver specifically at some point during the festival. “i wanna take pictures with you! they got a whole lil booth for it and everythin’!”

After the tea spillage at work this week, Jaq found himself taking the edge off in the only way he knew how: at the bar. There weren’t any parties going on that weekend, and he’d gotten over the shame of going to the bar alone. It typically resulted in better luck going home with a girl, anyway. “Are you here alone, too?” he asked the person sitting beside him, offering a smile. “I am, don’t judge. It’s been a long week. Have you ever spilled an entire teapot on yourself and then your boss found out that you broke her ceramic teapot? No? Me neither, until yesterday. Don’t recommend.”

Coming a bar alone wasn’t a common occurance for Lottie. Normally if she wanted a night out she went somewhere a bit more fun and always made sure she had company with her. Or at times when she just wanted to sit and have a drink or two somewhere, it was usually at Tiana’s Place, for obvious reasons. But something had compelled her to branch out tonight. Go flying solo to a new location. And when she spotted a familiar face at the bar, the blonde knew she’d made the right decision. Sliding into the seat next to his, Lottie was a little offended when Jaq didn’t automatically recognize her arrival, but once he finally did and he explain what apparently happened at work forgiven was easily given. “Can’t say I ever have, sugar, no,” she comments with a light laugh and a shake of her head. “Are you alright though? Didn’t scold yourself too bad, did ya?”

florian was sitting and reading just outside of the cafe when he had noticed from the corner of his eye an item falling out as someone walked past, continuing with their stride completely unaware of what they had just dropped, which caused the man to quickly get up and retrieve it, attempting to catch up with the other before it was too late. “hey! excuse me? um, i’m sorry, i didn’t mean to interrupt or anything but, you actually dropped this.” he offered it over to them. “i wouldn’t have forgiven myself if i’d just let you go…w-without it, i mean.” he quickly added at the end, with a bashful smile, realizing how those last words might come off. very smooth.

hearing someone call out to her, lottie stopped and turned on her heel to see who it was and what she could have potentially dropped. considering her purse wasn’t even halfway zipped, it wasn’t that surprising to hear, but still she felt slightly embarrassed at it all. though the worry of looking like a fool didn’t last long, not when there were much more important matters to focus on at hand. like how absolutely adorable the man standing in front of her was. a bright smile blooms on her face as she takes the fallen sketchpad from his outstretched hand. “well aren’t you my knight in shinin’ armor,” she says with a light chuckle. “thank you. i don’t know what i woulda done if i’d lost this.”

Now that Angelique was working with Adam for his hotel, she felt like Charlotte La Bouff’s was the next territory to conquer. She seemed to be a woman just like Angelique: determined, smart, and business-oriented. Plus, she was friends with Tiana, who was a friend of her own. Angel was trying to get closer to Lottie, and bragging about the fact that she’d singlehandedly (with the help of Lizzie) decorated the Beaulieu hotel couldn’t hurt. “The next event needs to be at your hôtel, oui? Maybe Valentine’s Day? Who decided to leave this party to a man?” she asked with a grin, handing Lottie a glass of champagne. “How are you enjoying your night?”

When a familiar blonde approaches her, Lottie isn’t entirely sure what she may want. She hopes it’s a dance or two, considering the woman has beauty that could rival even her own and Tiana’s - but the two glasses in her hand tell the blonde that it likely won’t be that. At least not right off the bat. What she wasn’t expecting was for Angel to start talking about the hotel buisness - not that it upset Lottie, she just wasn’t used to many people including her in that kind of talk anymore. “Oh I’d love that. And I’m sure Big Daddy would too,” she agrees with a grin. “Valentines Day’s always been my favorite holiday. After Mardi Gras, of course, but y’all don’t celebrate that the same way we do back home. Ooohhh - “ a pause as an idea hits her and her smile grows even wider. “Maybe we could host an event like that. Show all of Walt Grove the real way to throw a Mardi Gras party, New Orleans style.” The possibilities of everything that could do were already running through her head a mile a minute, but Lottie shoved them all aside, making mental note to call her father later to potentially set it all up. “Oh, I’m sure Mr. Beaulieu barely did any work on this. Back home Big Daddy was rarely ever in charge of all the decoration and handlins of these kinda parties.”

Oliver should have figured that telling Lottie that he was here to pretty much work wouldn’t be enough of a reason to keep her from wanting to dance with him. And it wasn’t like he didn’t want to dance with her either. If there was anyone at this ball who he would gladly dance with, Lottie sure would be that person. And Liv too, but he knew she was here with her own date who she could dance with, so it wasn’t as if Oliver was depriving his best friend of that. But if she also came up to him wanting to dance too, than he would no doubt let her despite like he said, he was working. “How could I forget, you won’t take ’no’ for an answer.” The blonde replied with a look of humor, not at all bothered by how she took the tray away from his hands and moved it somewhere else. Before he could add on to that, Oliver laughed as Lottie took his arm and began tugging him towards the dance floor. “Have to warn you then,” he began, allowing himself to be dragged by her. “I’m not the greatest dancer and I will most likely step on you on accident.”

There was a time when saying she refused to take no for an answer may have offended Lottie, back when so many people acted like she was nothing but a spoiled little rich bitch. But now after years of learning to be comfortable and confident in herself, it doesn’t bother her anymore. Yes, she was rich and lived a life of rarely being told no - but that didn’t make her a bad person. And she knew that Oliver wasn’t trying to imply that at all. “Settlin’ for ‘no’s means you miss out on a lot of life,” she argues with a small shrug. It may not be true and perhaps Lottie should learn to just accept not getitng her way - but on something as little as a dance, she didn’t feel too guilty for pushing. As the made their way to the center of the dancefloor, the blonde turned and grinned at the younger boy as she took his hands and moved on to sit on her waist. “Well I guess it’s a good think I’m not wearin’ open toed shoes then,” she teases, still not letting him out of this.

tiana hadn’t been trying to avoid lottie; she had just been doing everything she could to get her famous beignets prepped and ready for the ball tonight so that lottie and everyone there could enjoy them. a chance to share her desserts with all of town was too good to pass up, so when she was offered the chance to provide a treat for the ball she said yes without a second thought. of course her friend was a little bummed out since she was technically her date, but tiana did let her dress her up in something practical so she could still go out there and have a good time when everything was in order. she had just finished instructing the other chefs how to garnish her treats when lottie started hollering at her and she let out a soft laugh at her friend’s determination. “i’m comin’, i’m comin’” she said loudly, excusing herself out of the kitchen so she could come face to face with the blonde. “don’t you worry. i have been extra careful just for you, honey. now where did you wanna get these pictures?”

as soon as tiana came out of the swinging doors, lottie’s eyes started roaming over every inche of her best friend. her dress was clean and there didn’t seem to be anything in her hair or on her arms, but the lack of any kind of protective garment had her frowning. “tia, were you even wearin’ an apron?” she accuses, raising an eyebrow at the other girl. “i bet there was sugar and flour and who knows what else floatin’ all around that kitchen! what if ya woulda gotten your dress messy? or somethin’ in your hair?” it was the kind of thoughts lottie always had whenever she entered a kitchen, regardless of what was being made or how much she would be helping, but she knows that tiana likely doesn’t think of that kind of stuff often. “next time ya go in there put an apron on, alright? i’ll send for someone to go back home and get one for ya if you don’t got one here.” with that decision made, lottie focused back in on the pictures that needed to be taken and pointed towards two sliding doors that lead out towards a courtyard decorated with twinkling lights. “outside! we’ll try there first and if the lightin’ ain’t good enough we’ll go to the lobby.”

Everything about the ball was beautiful, straight out of a dream. Rosetta found herself wishing someone handsome would swoop in and sweep her off her feet, just in time for a midnight kiss, the beginning of her happily ever after — but she wasn’t counting on it, of course. This was just a really nice party, and if she went into another new year with no one to kiss, that would be alright. She was still having a good time. Turning when she felt the hand on her shoulder, a wide smile broke across her face. Lottie might not have been handsome, but she was certainly beautiful, and she was offering her a ticket to the dance floor. “Am I ever,” Rosetta replied, placing her barely sipped glass down on the closest table. “Why, I can’t remember the last time someone asked me to dance.”

When the younger girl admits that she can’t remember the last time she was asked to dance, Lottie can’t help the frown that pulls on her lips ever so slightly. “Well that just ain’t right,” she declares with a shake of her head. Someone as pretty as this girl should be asked to dance all the time, every day if the right occasion allowed for it. “We’re gonna fix that tonight. Find you some fellas and ladies to twirl you around all night if ya want that.” Holding out her hand, Lottie offered a big grin to the stranger. “Starting with me, of course.”

Attending the new years ball on his own accord was never in the cards for Oliver. He just didn’t like being at places like these, and it wasn’t like he had anything special waiting for him there even if he did wanted to attend. Well, okay no, he had his friends who he knew was going but he was also sure that all of them, if not most of them, would be going with a date. And yeah, he knows that if he wanted one himself but didn’t know who to ask, he could go for the blind date thing that the ball held but Oliver wasn’t about to latch himself onto someone he didn’t know. And really, he wasn’t interested in the ball in the first place, but after hearing how the ball was open to anyone who wanted to volunteer and help out, that on the other hand, did catch Oliver’s interest. He may not be interested in the main aspects of being at a ball entitles, but he was more than willing to help out during events such as these if it’s needed and seeing how big of a literal event this ball was, all the help offered was definitely needed. And that’s exactly what the blonde had been doing throughout his time here, having just finished making his round in offering any of the guests a drink and now with the last one already taken, he was just about planning on heading back towards the bar to hand out more when he felt a hand on his shoulder. Jolting back a little, he turned around and saw it was Lottie. “Oh, hey!” He blinked, having not seen the blonde in a while. The sight of her was truly a pleasant surprise, so much so, a smile began to make it’s way onto his face as she asked him if he wanted to dance. “I would, Lottie, but— uh, I’m not exactly here as a guest.”

Realizing who it was standing in front of her, Lottie’s entire face brightened as her grin extended. Not even the way he tried to work his way out of having to dance with her was enough to get the blonde upset. She was more than used to that kind of behavior and attitude from her best friend anyway, so it’s not like this was anything new - she had her excuses and reasonings ready to pull out and didn’t hesitate to do so. “So is Tia but I’m gonna be dancin’ with her tonight too,” she points out with a grin before taking the tray out of Oliver’s hand before he could stop her. Spinning on her heel, she sets the tray down on the closest table and turns back to Oliver with a bright smile. “Now you’re completely free to dance with me. No excuses.” And before he can argue again, Lottie reaches out and slides her arm through his and gives a small tug to pull him out onto the dance floor.

Judy was so excited to be at a real ball. She’d never been to an event so big before! Even the prom at her school back in Bunnyburrow was so small that most people didn’t even have dates. This was almost overwhelming and she couldn’t help the smile on her face or the look of awe in her eyes. When someone placed a hand on her shoulder Judy turned around and smiled even brighter. “Oh, I would love to dance!” She was ecstatic. First she got to go to a ball and now she was going to have a dance?! It was a dream come true. She was so thankful she didn’t have to work that night and the thought of work or any investigation hadn’t even crossed her mind. “I’m Judy. What’s your name?”

At the agreement, Lottie’s grin grew and she held out an arm for the other girl to take before they headed out towards the dance floor. “I’m Charlotte La Bouff,” she answers proudly, as if her name alone should mean something to the stranger. And it potentially could considering her family’s legacy and the hotel buisness they still owned worldwide, including the location in Walt Grove. “But everyone just calls me Lottie.”

trying to maneuver her way through the crowd after coming out of the bathroom, spinelli was annoyed as a group of people who were blocking her way didn’t seem to move from their spot and right now she was feeling way to stubborn to go another way, which was when she felt someone tap her on the back and she rolled her eyes slightly before turning around to see someone who was physically flawless and it took her a moment to remember that she had asked her a question, motioning towards the dance floor in front of them. “…o-oh, no, no that’s definitely not what…no, no. that’s…not what i’m here for but, uh…hope you find someone…i guess.”

the smile on lottie’s face falters ever so slightly at the girl’s answer. not that it should be completely surprising - the blonde knew not everyone enjoyed dancing, especially not with a stranger - but still being turned down wasn’t the response she had been expecting. and the explanation the younger girl gives her has lottie even more confused. “you’re not here to dance?” she asks, head tilting to the side slightly. “it’s a ball, sugar, that’s kinda the whole point of the night.” her words aren’t said with any malice or annoyance, a sweetness and bit of confusion lacing them instead as lottie genuinely couldn’t understand how anyone wouldn’t want to dance at an event like this. “but that’s okay. my best friend don’t like dancing much neither. she’s more of a food gal than a party one. oh!” her face lit up again with a smile as a realization hit her. “you must be here for the alcohol if you ain’t much of a dancer! we could go get a drink together instead if ya wanna.”
