Trigger Warning: Abandonment and child abuse, and mentions of stealing and blackmailing.
As a seven year old, all Oliver ever wanted was to be adopted and become part of a family. It didnât need to be much, he wasnât asking for someone wealthy, for a pair of parents, for siblings, or even to live in a big home where he would be spoiled. What he only ever wanted was to find someone who can love him.
Oliver doesnât remember much about his biological parents and what he does remember of them were memories he rather not think about. He barely knows who his actual father is as he left long before Oliver was ever born, but from what his mother would mention, it sounded like he never wanted a child in the first place. As for his mother, she was never the kindest, most dotting, or loving mother around, instead, she could constantly shout at him and blame him for his father leaving. As if him being born was his fault in the first place, and more than once, she had lashed out and hit him, refusing to feed him, or just flat out ignored him as if he didnât existed. It didnât help that Oliver looked so much like his father too, which made her hate him even more whenever she did pay attention to him, despite the fact that he had no choice in how he looks.
For six years Oliver has been treated badly until one rainy day, his mother finally decided that she didnât want to deal with him anymore and abandoned him at an orphanage by the time he was seven. And at first, Oliver didnât mind living at the orphanage. Things were well enough for him at the start, and though it did suck that any potential adoptees would overlook him for someone who was much younger or way older than him, he was for the most part content there. It wasnât until most of the kids around Oliverâs age were gone and Oliver was one of the few oldest at the orphanage was when his perspective in being there changed. The guardians who were supposed to take care of him started to treat him cruelly like his mother use to, and much to his dismay was that he realized they enjoyed it too!
For three years, Oliver dealt with their terrible treatment and he hated it. He was able to deal with him for the most part, hiding himself away inside his room that he thankfully had to himself as one of the oldest, but after a while, he couldnât stand it anymore. Oliver had moved from one abusive environment just to land himself in another one and he was tired of it! By the time he turned ten years old, Oliver set in his mind that he was going to run away, and on one stormy raining night, that is exactly what he had done.
He found himself all on his own, now needing to fend for himself. Though that wasnât anything new, Oliver was now in a whole other territory by being on the streets of Walt Grove. He had to find ways to feed himself when he didnât have any money and was too young to work for him and he needed to find a form of shelter. When it came to shelter, he focused on finding any places that was dry enough for him to sleep in during nights where it was raining or snowing, but if it was sunny and not so chilly out, sleeping at the park made due. But for feeding himself? As shameful as it is for him to admit, Oliver had no choice but to steal.Thereâs always a huge weight of guilt weighing Oliver down when he began to swipe food without paying for it, but what else could he do? He wouldâve starved if he didnât! And fortunately for him, since he was so young and baby faced, many people hardly focused on him whenever he walked into a grocery store or restaurant. He could use his youthful looks to charm anyone in order to distract them and if not, he would just grab and go. And sometimes, it wasnât even him stealing food, as eventually he had to do so for clothes and money too!
For a while, that is exactly what Oliver did until he met Arthur Dodger. After being tricked, Dodger had been the one to steal from him, much to Oliverâs frustration, but the boy didnât let him do so without a chase. And while chasing him down. the boy found himself at some kind of base where not only Dodger lived at, but an entire gang of people of all sorts of ages! They were untrusting of Oliver at first, but when he met them all, he could see that they were like him, a group of people looking for a place to belong.
It wasnât his intent at the time, but after meeting the gangâs parental figure, Finnley Fagin who insisted that Oliver stays, that is exactly what Oliver did. And for the next few years, that is where Oliver stayed and grew up. There, he learned a lot from the others while growing closer to them, and surprisingly or not so surprisingly, the one he grew the closes to was Dodger who Oliver soon viewed as an older brother figure. It was the first time within Oliverâs life where he felt he belonged and even loved, to the point where he felt content if this is where he lived his life from now on. Sure, it wasnât the best place to be at and he still had to steal and do things that he isnât proud of, but it was a home of some sorts to him with a group of people who he did view as family.
By the time Oliver was thirteen, he had mostly given up on being adopted, not believing that anyone would want him now that he was older and had a criminal background to him. Yet life still continues to throw surprises to him as one day while he was on a heist with Tito to steal money from a very wealthy car, he found himself meeting a kind woman named Jenny. At first, Oliver had been terrified as it was her car they were trying to steal from, yet instead of getting angry at him or threatening to call the cops on him, Jenny seeing the fear on his face and how disheveled he looked, decided invited him to her home. It was as if she knew he was an orphan, and there she fed him, clothed him, and allowed him to stay at her home for as long as he liked. It was confusing to Oliver at first, but he didnât complain. Her house was so big and nice, bigger than any house he has ever seen before! The clothes was so soft and bright, nothing like the ones he stolen, and the food! Oliver never realized just how starving he really has been until he had someone cook him an entire four course meal for him! To say Oliver found himself at paradise was an understatement!
For days, Oliver stayed with Jenny, being dote on and cared for by the woman. A feeling that heâs never experienced, not even by Fagin, Dodger and the rest of the bunch. It feltâŚ.like he actually had a real mother for once in his life, so when she told him that she wanted to adopt him, Oliver is not ashamed to say he bursted into tears. Being adopted was all he ever wanted and the fact that she wanted him at his age? How could he refuse! Of course, the process hadnât been the easiest and for a moment, he was âkidnappedâ by the gang who thought he was being held hostage by Jenny, but once Oliver told them that they wanted to stay and he liked it where he was, they let him go back home. And home is where Oliver stays.
Life as a Foxworth couldnât have been any better! He had a loving parent, a admittedly self-absorbed cousin who disliked him at first but soon learned to live with him named Georgette, and though he didnât live with them anymore, he still had the bests friends he could ever asks for in Dodger and the gang who he still visits all the time. Oliver finally began attending school, was able to get many scholarships, and he even stopped stealing completely which helped cleared his conscious for the moment! Too bad Bill Sykes found out that Oliver was rich now and decided to blackmail him into wiring money unless he wants to reveal to Jenny all of the petty crimes he done when he was younger. He even forged records that was worst than stealing, and fearful of Jenny catching wind of what he had done and potentially losing his newfound home, Oliver did as Sykes wanted and wired money from Jennyâs account to him. And heâs been doing so to this day.
For years, Oliver believed he was unlovable since it took him a while to get adopted. He felt like he wasnât deserving of love, and while he knows that he is now, there are days where Oliver canât help but feel like that again. More so whenever he thinks about how guilty he is to be stealing from his adoptive mom.
Believes there is such a thing as good karma and bad karma, and tries to do things that counteracts any bad karma directed at him such as opening doors to people, helping the elderly cross the street, doing any tasks when given to him, volunteering wherever he could, and etc.
Though Oliver is actually very smart for someone who started to get an education late in his life, there are days where he canât help but feel like heâs dumb in comparison to others. Like yeah, he has street smarts and can adapt to things quickly, but thereâs a part of him that feels inferior and insecure at the fact that he was fifteen when he actually began going to school.
Wants to become a teacher because he thinks he could become an adult who kids could look up to and find reliance in, something he never had until he met Dodger and the gang.
Oliver does not like having eyes and attention into him as whenever that happens, it makes him extremely nervous and he would start stumbling with his words.
Learned to play the piano when he found out that Jenny knew how and had begged her to teach him. He likes to play for her and Dodger and the gang. But from time to time, he could be found at his collegeâs music room, playing it if no one else is there.
Knows how to do card tricks and even enjoys doing so.
Would sometimes randomly start speaking in Spanish whenever heâs extremely stressed or distracted about something thanks to being around Tito for so long. That being said, Oliver also likes to talk to himself a lot as he use to do so from being on his own for years.
Whenever heâs freaked out, he likes to find the most confiding of places to stay in because being squished is comforting to him in a way. And if he canât, heâll just bundle himself up with as many bedsheets as he could and stay there until heâs calmed down.
He cannot stand rainy days especially when if itâs storming. It reminds him of the day he ran away from the orphanage as that was also the day he fully realized that no one wanted him (at least he thought so as a child). And while he knows that isnât true anymore, he tends to become extremely moody and even snappy when itâs raining out.
Sometime around when he was eighteen or so, Oliver got the habit of housing stray dogs and cats at his home. It was always temporary and usually whenever the animal was injured, weak, or if it was very bad outside, but he couldnât help but see himself in these stray animals and after getting consent from Jenny to do so, he began inviting any stray dogs and cats to his home and would watch over them whenever he could. He would even try to find homes for them if he could, no matter how much he also wishes to keep them all for himself, but Oliver knew that there was a place and home for everyone, including strays.
You wonât know that heâs rich unless he tells you or takes you to his house. He likes keeping that information to himself when he can help it as he doesn't want people treating him differently for now having money.
Though Jenny is very affectionate and loving, and he does receive as much love from Dodger and the crew, Oliver is still kinda touched starved. He wants love and affection, but heâs a little guarded after years of being on his own so while still very much friendly, it isnât easy for Oliver to let people in or be physical with him in any way outside of a handshake or a slight pat on the back. Doesnât mean he wants any less affection, heâs just awkward.
