*AOT SPOILERS AHEAD*
Anyone else feel like the character deaths in chapter 132 were kind of forced and unnecessary?
Previously the major character deaths happened for a reason. Erwin's death caused conflict between the scouts, Sasha's death sparked Gabi's story. Even Hannes represented the last parental figure from Eren's childhood.
But I felt like Floch's death was added in as an afterthought, a kind of 'oh yeah I should probably kill this guy off about now'. He comes in, shoots a couple of times and almost immediately dies.
Hange's death, particularly, felt forced to me. They were a MAJOR and well-loved character in the series, and their death was both sudden and lacking the emotionality of previous deaths. They didn't accomplish anything by staying behind - they did not manage to slow the titan advance. Even their farewell to the scouts (particularly Levi, with whom they shared a close bond) seemed to lack feeling.
I get that after Hange died, Armin took over as commander. But this could have occured without Hange sacrificing themselves for no reason - they could have simply stepped down.
This may be just because I was a huge fan of Hange - to me, they were the best character in the series - but I do wish if their death really was necessary to the plot, they could have gone out in a better way.
