I still believe.
The thing about Times Square is that I really like the way everything is illuminated, but I hate everything the light touches. So this happened...
Don’t. Fuck. This. Up.
It only took the end of the world for me to finally finish an edit.
🔥¯\_(ツ)_/¯🔥
So I know it’s been awhile. 30-something depression hits different. 2020 is a fucking shit show. Idk. But I’ve realized I need to stop being an edit hoarder and start just sharing my shit even if it’s in progress, like I used to do. Making weird photoshops was how I used to vent, and not doing that has been not great for my brain. I never expected such a large following and I think it had a negative impact on that process. So I became a social media hermit. But now that all these Corona shenanigans are making us IRL hermits I'm creepin’ back in.
Hit the comments for a lil walkthrough about how it’s built. Once I try it a few more time’s I’ll make a cohesive tutorial.

I found myself thinking a lot about the Dark Tower while in New Zealand with the Alpha Collective. The landscape reminded me so much of Mid-World that in a way it felt like Déjà vu. Probably because my imagination spent the better part of a year there. A 1,242,774 word journey. By far the most devoted I’ve ever been to a book series. And so it’s apt that the first piece I create from this trip is an evolution of my geometric reflections series. A body of work seven years in the making. And I don’t want to speak too much to how this references the series, because spoilers are dumb. But if you know you know, there are other worlds than these.

Ahh, the good ol’ fashioned levitation portrait. This is one of the first manipulation techniques I explored when I got into photography. The whole focus of the edit is masking, which is one of the fundamentals of digital manipulation. I can’t think of an edit I’ve done where I haven’t used a mask in some way. That’s why I thought it would be a fun one to cover #withGalaxy Note 9 in my episode of /make.

Thanks again Samsung Mobile for letting me be a part of such a cool project!
Woww so excited to FINALLY be able to share my episode of /make! Watch Jinsil Lee and I wander around NYC and create #withGalaxy Note 9. • I'm a big believer in open source learning. One of my 2018 goals has been to be a better contributor to the pool of knowledge that got me where I am now. So working with Samsung Mobile to teach mobile editing techniques (so everyone can start getting into being a digital manipulation weirdo like me) is helping me end the year on a high note.

In the spirit of #tbt I've created my very first tutorial on how to create and animate your own coffee cup manipulation. I'm excited to see what you make! :)
