OBB: This poem began in a tension between weariness and wonder, echoing the currents of my book,ย Consider the Rooster. The inexhaustible nature of its subject matter, as suggested by the title, led to a list that explores lifeโs rhythms, simultaneities, and lonely moments. Though the poem ends, the experiences within it continue beyond. Appearing in the โspirit in flightโ section of my book, the poem animates this permeability and ongoing-ness through its syntax and lines. The formal decision to structure the poem into three parts felt both futile and deeply significant. The lines and stanzas blur, with almost unexplainable gutters in which I try to steal breath back from time. I am interested in what happens to all of us, our interconnectedness in liminal spaces.

Ravee knew better than to deny a chance to sing at karaoke. Whether she was putting on the show of her life or was the drunkest sober person alive, her happy ass was up there performing. Singing until her heart was content. And as she was getting close to finishing up her one woman show rendition of "Golden", her heart racing and her smile refusing to disappear, the professor's eyes landed on the nearest person. Okay, seriously, was she losing her mind? If so, it's a shock it wasn't until now for that to be the case. Ravee could swear upside down and back that she has searched through this entire apartment, thrice, and still has not found her favourite mug. Which was weird, considering she cleaned it just the night before. Brows furrowed, she stood up from looking inside the dishwasher for the third time. Lips pursing in annoyance and frustration. "Hey, Ives?" Her voice rang out. The woman beginning to search inside the mug cabinet... again. "Have you seen my Colosseum mug? I'm so close to driving back to the uni to check my office, I just cannot find it anywhere here!"

The Dubois have always held a name within the international entertainment industry. Growing up in Belgium, Vincent Dubois eventually went to school in Paris and filmed in various locations throughout Europe. Becoming a prominent auteur who'd earn praise for his provocative and thoughtful films. Meanwhile, Deepika Kapoor was a rising star in India. Doing collaborations in Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Korea, and Japan, it wasn't long before every director across the globe began to desire her. Coveting over who would reign supreme and have her become their muse.
Vincent was victorious.
The two had met at the Nomad Games in Central Asia in 1989, connecting instantly over their differing views on which was the supreme epic story: Homer's The Iliad and the Odyssey (as vouched for by Vincent) or The Ramayana (as loved by Deepika). Both were attracted to the other's intellectualism and spent the next two months traveling throughout Central Asia together.
Months later, as they rang in the New Year together for 1990, they eloped.
Settling on New York City as their main home base had been a rather easy choice for the couple. They enjoyed the diverse and creative opportunities it held. And then soon, over the years, their family grew. Adopting ten whole children from across the globe and becoming a family of twelve.
In such a diverse and large family, there had never been a dull moment for the Dubois. It was something that the fourth child, Ravee, cherished deeply. As chaotic as it was, it was equally full of intense and magnificent love. Vincent and Deepika instilled a love of the world, for the arts, and a steady work ethic amongst their children. Ensuring that all of them knew what they needed to be fully rounded-out human beings.
For Ravee, it admittedly had been a challenging time trying to choose what she wanted to do as she got older. Her creativity shone brightly with age, developing a love and talent with the arts. Reaching university, she had opted to major in Humanities with a minor in Asian Studies. Eventually earning her major in the same with her final thesis regarding Asian Arts, specifically Thai culture.
Moving to Los Angeles for her Masters had been exciting. While she was more than familiar with the area, being able to live there full-time was an entirely new world for her. Especially since it involved being there with her best friend... And, of course, it leading to find the person who has now become her fiancรฉ.
Falling in love was exciting. Of course, Ravee is an incredibly romantic person; she enjoyed looking at the world through heart-shaped, rose-coloured glasses. Even when there are moments that tinged at her heart, she would ignore those warning bells. Choosing to believe in what the world could be.
Living in Sunnyville Point since her initial move to the area and having been a Humanities Professor at the local university since she was twenty-eight years old, her heart is happy in Sunset Ridge. Ravee is forever curious about what else life will be throwing her way. And with the wedding on the horizon, she has found herself becoming more excited for the future... Even if she catches her breath seeing her fiancรฉ and best friend near each other... and how they look at each other.
Ravee has been a content creator longer than she can admit. Originally using YouTube to upload short films, skits, and behind-the-scenes features from the theatrical and choir performances throughout middle school and high school, it has since then evolved in her doing reactions and commentaries to films, shows, music, books, and other art forms. Though she still occasionally shares a short film or BTS feature now and then.
Ravee is always creating. A new art work, a song, a dance, practicing a monologue, taking photographs and videos, or jewelry, she can't not do something with her hands.
She loves being involved with the university's theatre and music department, along with Sunset Ridge's local community theatre. She is hoping to put on a production of a Greek tragedy at some point in the nearby future and has been working on designs for it for years now.
Her family has wondered why she hasn't tried to get into the professional acting and music scenes, despite her great love for them. While there is a part of Ravee that has considered it, even having a few notebooks dedicated to potential EPS and albums, along with movies and series, she keeps holding off. Due to her family's status in Hollywood, she knows that she would have an easier time getting through doors. She wouldn't be able to help but wonder if she's truly talented, or because she has the right name.
