It is so incredibly validating that Phineas and Ferb is “cool” now.

When I was a phineas and ferb obsessed weirdo in high school in the mid 2010s, I remember writing and presenting a daily journal prompt comparing Phineas and Ferb to SpongeBob. It was like “SpongeBob is nostalgic and cool, why not Phineas and Ferb?? What’s the difference other than when they were first released??” and im fairly sure I even predicted PnF WOULD have the cool nostalgia factor someday.

ok one of my favorite bits in season 5 is when Doofenshmirtz’s therapist says “the platypus is a metaphor for…whatever is keeping you down” and Doof is like “I’m not speaking metaphorically!”

THAT is how you do a callback!! You rarely if ever hear that part of “There’s A Platypus Controlling Me” in viral videos, you’ll only get the joke if you’ve actually internalized the entire song. Having Doof say “well I’ll be honest, I don’t really understand” would be more widely understood but a bit on the nose, this is far more clever.
