Why So Much Hatred?
"I won't give you respect until you give me a reason" "You hate me? I don't give a ____ .... Just being real." "You look like you're on crack, please don't talk to me." "All you fakers just need to kill yourself." These are just a FEW of the posts I've seen this past week on Facebook and Twitter, and it really upsets me to see the amount of hate amongst young adults. Where did all of this hatred come from? It seems like kids these days are being taught "the world is tough so you have to lookout for yourself and do what's best for you. If someone is brutal to you be brutal back and get even." Yet the Bible tells us to LOVE others as yourself. Mark 12:31 - The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." Why is this kind of love such a foreign concept in today's society? Even if you take religion out of the picture, the one thing people search for is love. So why not give them love? If a person looks like they're "on crack" who knows what they've been through so why not share the love of Christ with them? Why turn your back on someone when the one thing that could change their life is just to have someone to talk to for once. Someone doesn't like you so you let them know you don't care because you are "being real." What does that even mean? By "real" do you mean insecure? Because the Bible tells us to love our enemies, and PRAY for those who persecute you. If someone hates you, the one thing that will get straight to their heart is if you give them genuine love. Matthew 5:44 - But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
Matthew 5:46-47 -If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?
Don't give respect until you receive respect you say? The Bible says otherwise. How can you live a life of love if your heart is closed to others?
Romans 12:10 - Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.
Out of all of the things I have seen recently, the one thing that disturbs me the most is how it is becoming more and more common to see people telling others to inflict harm on themselves. I don't understand it. Someone has a different opinion than you so you tell them to cut themselves? What is this nonsense? What has caused you to reach a level of bitterness where you speak carelessly without remorse? The Bible tells us to do otherwise. Ephesians 4:29 - Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
Instead of trying to bring people down, why not try building them up? You never know what people may be going through so why not speak with love? A simple "I love you" could really impact someone and could even save a life.
Everyone desires love, yet I see so many people who don't give love but expect to receive it. But here's the good news, Jesus loves you. He loves you so much that He died bearing the weight of ALL sin so that YOU, by following Him, have a way to spend ETERNITY in Heaven with Him. He died after living a perfect, sinless life. Think about that for a second... The God of the UNIVERSE became human, lived a flawless life, and willingly gave Himself up as the ultimate sacrifice to be tortured and crucified (the most gruesome, humiliating, and public punishment there was) so that through Him, we have a way to spend eternity in Heaven. And in order to be with Him in Paradise for eternity, we simply have to give our life to Him and follow Him. We are saved by grace through faith. Share the love of Christ.
Facebook, Twitter, Music, & the Kingdom of God
Okay, so I recently felt strongly convicted about something the other day randomly as I was playing my guitar. It's something I feel a lot of high school and college-aged kids may struggle with as Christians. As a musician, I want to write and send out messages that glorify God, but I stopped and took a break after a couple hours and thought about what I wanted to send out. That's when it hit me. . .
***"Why am I spending more time playing guitar or on Facebook and Twitter, than reading and spending time in the Word and with God?"***
I say that I live for God and follow Jesus, yet instead of being wrapped up in the Word of God I am updating my status and networking. God could take away my talents with the snap of His finger, so why in the world should I be spending more time on short-term pleasures when I can be forever fulfilled with the love and Kingdom of God?
I urge you to reflect on how you're living your life on a day to day basis. Instead of picking up your laptop to watch your favorite YouTube channels, pick up your Bible and spend that time with God. Instead of getting on Facebook, try reading a devotional book. Or if you're like me, make sure you don't get so distracted with music that you forget the whole reason and purpose you play it.
Make a change today, because what will happen tomorrow is uncertain.
Matthew 6:34 "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
Music isn't just something you hear on the radio, or listen to every night to help fall asleep; it is a complete and unique language. Each person has a unique taste for music, and all music has a message that speaks to us in different ways. Music isn't confined to the lines written on a staff, it is one thing that is meant to go outside the lines. Two musicians can have a conversation without even saying a word, just by playing music.
Music is something that is very infectious, and pours out whatever is inside your heart. It is something that can move you in a way that nothing else can. For that reason, I want to write and perform music that shares the love of God. I want God to give me the songs to write so that He can pour into people's hearts through the music that I play. For me, I feel like my strongest gift is my musical talents and I want to give it all to God.
