(sorry if this is a bad summery, plz feel free to tell me what I did wrong)
CHAPTER ONE:
The room was cold, and covered with a cheap wallpaper that attempted to resemble the outside world, a variation of hills against a sky-blue background, the hills were covered in pink and purple flowers with stupid smiles in the centre yellow circle that is acting like the pistil of the flower. He never thought he would do this for her, to help her even for a split second of his life. She meant to die, the creature that was intended to join her in the after-life, was snuggled quietly in the small bassinet in front of him. Unaware of the world around it, unaware of the horror that just occurred in the next room. It looked like the embodiment of innocence, of purity, of peace. It was everything he wasn’t, and he loved that more than he liked to admit.
In the middle of his crisis, the midwife of his daughter walked in, having an upsetting expression stained on her face.
“Mr Rich, I’m terribly sorry, but your daughter didn’t make it.”
He raised his line of sight from the infant to grown woman,
“That’s alright it wasn’t your fault, she should have listened to me, but of course she didn’t” He smiled slightly, she was startled by his response, it wasn’t upset nor angry more unfazed if anything. He was uninterested in the rather devastating news. He knew he should feel something, he just didn’t care to put it simply, in fact he was hoping that the mother of this child would pass during child-birth, it made his life a whole lot easier if she did. He was rather glad his plan went the way he intended it to go.
On the outside looking in it looked like nothing more than some sick turn of events that made the death of his daughter natural, on the inside it was a much darker reality.
He was so confident in himself that he didn’t take into account what would happen if the child survived, what will he do now, it’s alive, thriving even. It confuses him most in this world because for some odd reason he didn’t want to dispose of it, he wanted to keep it, to care for it, to cherish it. Maybe all the adrenaline of murder was getting to his head or maybe he really did want to have a retry on the whole “parenting” thing.
The older man was definitely in no position to care for another child, he was getting on in years and it wouldn’t be wise to add more to his already overflowing plate, but the small thing wasn’t going to stay long so why not have some fun before getting rid of it.
The man cleared his throat having to look at the embroidered name on the midwife’s uniform. She straightened her back at the sudden noise followed by him requesting “Sally, my dear girl could you go out to the waiting room and fetch a friend of mine? His name is Archie.” Sally quickly nodded her head and left the room to find the one he was talking about.
Not even four minutes later, a tall golden eyed man entered the room. “Yes, master Walter? How can I be of service to you?” Archie questioned in his usual cheer filled voice, accompanied by a small smile.
“Prepare an infant’s room, across the hall from mine, I would like to bring the infant home for a while.” Surprize as well as confusion crossed his facial expression.
“Are you certain with this decision, Master Walter?”
“Have I ever been uncertain about one of my decisions, old friend?” Walter wore a pride filled grin, as Archie emits a long, bothered sigh “No... Not yet anyway” Walter raised his eyebrows swiftly while turning his head to let his sight rest on the little girl sleeping soundly, while also wondering if he won the little argument the two had.
Archie was the only one really brave enough to bicker with the higher ranked man, he knows how to press his buttons and get away with it almost effortlessly, and every time he does everyone that happens to be in the same room with them, questions if the assistant has a death wish. The thing that helps Archie succeed in this department is being the one who was raised to be his closest friend and most trusted associate. He was born and raised by the stern man’s side and will more than likely perish with him as well.
A quick glance was all that Archie had to do to see what his old pal was thinking “Her genes run strong in the girl, they look very similar” Walter hummed in agreement.
“It’s almost scary”
“Have you thought of a name for the little on?” Archie asked.
“Selena, it was one the one her mother chosen for her” He answered softly, his eyes relaxing into an almost loving gaze.
“She was meant to die in the original plan, was she not, Master Walter?”
“She was” Walter replied. Clearing his throat due to a slight itch in the back of it.
The two stood there for a moment, bathing in the calming aroma surrounding the room.
Five minutes pasted, and a click came from the door along with a very subtle squeak, in came the midwife she wore a very soft smile one that showed clearly that she pitied the new grandfather.
“Hi, sorry to interrupt” she started “but I'm going to have to borrow the little one for just a moment, just to check she is ready to go home”
Walter gave her a comforting smile to her unsure voice “Yes of course, be my guest” he gestured to the basinet in front of him, with an arm extended. She continued her walk into the room and towards the baby, all with her heels making the same soft clicking sound the door made when she entered. Her department of the room was just as quickly and quietly as her entrance.
Upon her absence the two men fell into an awkward silence, Archie thought about breaking it but decided against it, thankfully, a new employee of Mister Walter Rich aggressively, ripped open the door, with a suit that was stained with a very familiar crimson red. Very out of breath the young man gasped out. “Sir! There was a breck-in a few doors down the hall” the sentence came out slow “and the nurse with the baby was killed!”.
