To understand my personality takes a level of sophistication even I haven't acquired.

In India, around 200 million people are depressed, read a blog at Financial express which comes around to 20,00,00,000 people. India is the 6th most depressed country in the world says WHO report in the year 2018. There are several other sites putting out reports about India being a centre for depressed human.
Why is this happening? Have we stop and thought once? Have we reached out to a person facing depression? Actually, how will we reach someone, when we don't know, is anybody suffering from such issue.
Depression is a state of mind. It's a phase where the person suffering it has been filled with negative & depressing thoughts. We can't spot a depressed person as there are no physical symptoms.
Depression sounds very underrated in our country. We tend to a judgemental mindset which blocks others to reach us out for help. The person feels insecure about sharing his thoughts. The fear him/ her of what will others think pushes them in a dark world. They will create a mind space which resists them to come out. Every comment on them affects them deeply. All the pain, hurt, pressure, stress sums up into a mental strain causing depression. Depression is not a sudden state but builds up of rejection, failure, fear, loneliness and other factors.
People are so involved in their lives that they hardly care what's happening in others life. We as humans are losing courtesy. One of the traits of humans is humanity which is lost in the world of a material thing.
The other day I was talking on a call with my friend. She wanted me to listen about what's going on with her. She was exhausted with the constant rush. Instead of hearing her out, I kept blabbering about my day, myself. In one word, I was being a 'self - centred'. She gradually stopped saying. After talking enough and getting no response I asked her. She replied, "I called you because I thought you'd listen". That moment it hit me hard, right in my head. I felt like a gunshot. She wanted me to listen. I realised how obnoxious I've behaved. My friend needed someone to hear but I stole her spot pushing her aside and making myself the hero. It made me wonder not always we have to speak. Sometimes it's important to listen. And if someone shares their problems we flood them with solutions, suggestion, mean comments making them feel inferior. We desperately want to be the " correct one " so we directly rush to the conclusion sidelining the depressed person. They gradually cut off from us, as in their mind they think, "no one needs me", " no one wants to hear me" and many extremely negative thoughts.
The point here is we should be a little more welcoming towards issues like depression, anxiety and panic attacks. Not everything can be cured by "Haldi Dudh".
Depression has to handled with care and attention. We should be kind a little more. We should be sweet and empathetic slightly more. Creating an environment for the person to open up and put their guards down. If handled with care and affection depression can be solved. Listen to what the person has to say.
A person fighting and shouting is better than a person staying in a cacoon. I pray for a more friendly and helpful environment. I pray that India treats depression a little seriously. Depression should not be dealt with carelessness but with more love.
