D&D Homebrew: Sorcerer Subclass: Multifarious Souls
Every living being has one soul. This is widely accepted as fact but magic cares little for facts. Sorcerers of Multifarious Souls spit in the face of this law. One can manifest or house multiple souls in a variety of ways. Some are born with extra souls often a result of complications with twins in utero, some have their own souls shattered into bits and the bits regrow instead of recombining, others have multiple personalities that develope souls via exposure to magic, others absorb souls of the living, or are inhabited by ghosts. As with many Sorcerous Origins, there are many ways they manifest.
Access to multiple souls grants access to a diverse breadth of learning. By communing with the souls within you, you come to know what those souls know. Starting at 1st level when you take this subclass option you become proficient with a language, a skill, and a tool of your choice.
Starting at 1st level, your legion of souls manifest to protect you. Whenever you cast a spell using your action and a spell slot of 1st level or higher, spend your bonus action to roll a number of d4 equal to the level of the spell slot used, up to a maximum of 5d4. For 1 minute, you gain temporary hit points equal to the result of that roll.
At 6th level, your multiple souls work in conjunction to protect your body and mind. Choose one Ability score, you are proficient in saving throws of that score if you aren’t already. Additionally, you may spend 4 Sorcery Points and your action to substitute one of your ability score saving throw proficiencies with another until you finish a short rest.
Starting at 14th level, when a creature within 60 feet of you deals damage to you and you have the temporary hit points granted by your Bolstering Souls feature, you may deal force damage equal to your Charisma modifier to that creature as one of your many souls leaves your body to assail them.
If the triggering damage removes all of your temporary hit points, deal force damage to that creature equal to double your Charisma modifier instead as all of your extra souls are temporarily unleashed.
Starting at 18th level, your magic flows forth in multitudes thanks to your collective power, allowing you to cast multiple spells in one turn. When you deal damage to a creature with a spell using a spell slot of 1st level or higher, you may spend your bonus action and 2 Sorcery Points to cast a cantrip or spell of a lower level than the one you already cast. The bonus spell you cast must be one that has a casting time of 1 action or 1 bonus action and must not deal damage.
