reblog if you would never let ai write fanfics for you
how to write monsters that actually scare and not sparkle
✦ first rule: don’t over-explain. once you give me the monster’s exact height, weight, claw count, and dental record, it’s not scary anymore. it’s a pokémon. mystery is the muscle. a shadow that almost looks human will always hit harder than a full description of a swamp beast. leave gaps. let the reader’s brain fill them in with their own worst fear.
✦ physics should not apply. horror monsters are terrifying when they break the rules of the world we think we understand. a body folding in ways it shouldn’t. joints bending the wrong direction. silence in a place that should echo. footsteps that sound like they’re coming from the ceiling instead of the floor. once you warp reality, the reader doesn’t feel safe in their own.
✦ chasing is fine. but waiting is worse. scarier than claws, scarier than snarling—try a monster that just stands in the corner and watches. even scarier? it smiles. because predators don’t smile unless they know something you don’t.
✦ let it act like it knows you. a growl is scary, sure, but a whisper of your name in the dark is worse. a hiss of your birthday. a laugh in your mother’s voice. monsters are no longer “other” once they feel personal. they’re invasive. they’re inside your head.
✦ bonus tip: give them wrong appetites. a monster that eats flesh is cliché. a monster that eats wallpaper? horrifying. one that eats memories, so a character wakes up without knowing their own name? disgusting. one that eats reflections from mirrors so you don’t see yourself anymore? revolting.
Fell off posting here because chronic illness makes life hard. Wanna get back to fic writing again, just having choice paralysis as I have so many WIPs.
Rudolf’s role in season 2 is so emphasized it’s funny she does kind of literally nothing. Which kind of says things for itself and is such a funny thing to analyze. Season 2 spoilers for the anime by the way!
The first thing we’re introduced in the season is how Teio, an elementary schooler, first met Rudolf in the midst of her blitzing career, as she grabbed her second crown. Rudolf is powerful, all encompassing, and all that Teio admires. She becomes the goalpost, just as Rudolf has intentionally put herself as years later.
Now, we start off the season with the first of three leg fractures/injuries Teio endured throughout the entire 2-3 years (yes, that’s how long this season takes) of this arc. Rudolf and Spica’s trainer are the only ones to notice the injury as Teio performs her concert, both being experienced in their field. However, as Teio goes through rehabilitation, we actually hear a bit of commentary from Grass Wonder.
In the first of many, many scenarios where Rudolf watches over Teio from a far distance, Grass asks Rudolf why she isn’t talking to her, especially after such a sharp and critical injury as a racer. Rudolf’s simply replies that Teio isn’t the type of person to give up, so talking to her simply isn’t necessary.
And Grass retorts: “Are you sure it isn’t because you can’t find the right words?”
Now, 1. Ouch. And 2. Grass hit the nail on its head, because we see this lack of words, of any guidance or wisdom so evident in any Rudolf appearance involving Teio. She’s simply there as fuel Teio rockets off her own optimism and her beliefs to affirm. The most evident being before Teio’s Tenno Sho Spring match against McQueen. Teio shows off her confidence, displaying her train of thought into entering her very first Long distance race, to Rudolf merely smiles and nods at. Yet she’s almost never there when Teio is struggling, usually only present when Teio is picking herself back up.
This is not to say Rudolf doesn’t care about Teio when she’s hitting her low points. She has specific scenes depicting her misery, panic, fear, and more when Teio crashes again, and again, and again. The first injury, her holding herself tight as she watched the Kikuka Sho start without Teio, is one of the sharpest ones to me. Specifically because in the exact same frame of the moment, Teio herself was bawling at the loss of her Triple Crown dream, crying Rudolf’s name. (Or well, Prez. You get the point.) It’s very evident that she’s fond of, even favors Teio and her journey. That kid she met that grew into this amazingly strong racer along the way. Only to simply watch her plummet, again, and again, and again.
Simply put, it’s as Grass wonder states. She does not know what to offer, or say. She always watches Teio from a visible, but far distance. Unreachable still, in many ways, but always watching. But words are vitally important, as we begin to see throughout this season. Encouragement is important, Sharing perspective, rivalry even, is key to mutual growth.
We see this through Bourbon and Rice’s arc. We see this in the Fan festival, where the people, including a significantly younger Kitasan Black and Satono Diamond cry for Teio’s return. And Rudolf, while she is clearly warm and brimming with emotion, does not do that. When Teio conveys her intention to retire to Rudolf, she does not fight back. Yet, in a conversation with McQueen (who similarly acted the same way), they both reveal their denial of the situation. They both simply can’t accept it until it actually happens.
There is one moment where Teio asks for Rudolf’s perspective. Just before the Arima Kinen, where she asks if there’s anything Rudolf did before a race she really wanted to win, no matter what. And Rudolf, being Rudolf, never narrowed that answer down to herself, rather every uma musume’s desire to win. It turned into a form of encouragement, but she never quite answers her personal view.
There is however, the one, final moment that Rudolf finds the words. In the final, last scenes of Teio’s Arima Kinen race. She finds the words. Her voice actor does a wonderful, excellent job of depicting Rudolf bite out these words of obvious favoritism. Despite her position as the Emperor, the one who equally must guide uma musume to the light, the student council president, she cannot help but shout:
“Go! Run! Go! GO!”
She then later joins the crowd’s chant, a soft one, crying at Tokai Teio’s victory.
As little as Rudolf is fleshed out in this season, I cried hearing her shout, seeing her cry. I cried because Teio is dearly loved by everyone, her mentor figure, her friends, her rival, her community. Rudolf is one of those people, even if she’s bad at playing her role. Three cheers for emotionally constipated women!
She got exactly what she wanted for Christmas
it’s like when you see a picture of a moose online but you don’t realize how huge they are until you happen to spot one in real life
a thing that appeals to me a lot about air groove is that she’s not strict despite the things that make her soft-hearted; she’s strict because of them. she’s strict because she wants people to hold themselves to high standards. she’s exacting because by being exacting enough, she can exactingly make sure others are safe and happy. she’s strict because she deeply believes in everyone, which means she also believes they can do better. and certainly, she likes puppies and flowers and she’s soft at heart, but that’s not “out of character”. that’s a continuation of the fact that she cares, and cares deeply, and cares that everyone else can rise to meet the standards she holds herself to more than anyone else.
my first umamusume fanart..... was playing air groove's career and these two are so cute with each other, especially how rudolf worries about groove and asks her trainer if she's not pushing herself too far. and, of course, them being the emperor and the empress. i'd say this is fate!!!
stop foaling around!!!! get back to your presidential duties!!!
wait.
These three are family to me because they all have similar titles (among other reasons)
First time posting here in... a while. But have an AiGin fic in my AU where Aizen is cursed with an inner hollow and has a quiet existential crisis about Gin ending him.

I’m excited to share my fan project Turnabout Werewolf, my love letter to Ace Attorney!
I drew 37 illustrations of various AA characters...hope you enjoy them! ⚖️🐺
Proceed with caution: the cards contain spoilers for AA123, AA456, and AAI12!‼️
I love when there's characters that are pair bonded and you know that wherever one of them is the other is also gonna be there.
Not necessarily romantic (either in the text or through a shipping lense). Yeah this is my guy don't split us up. No particular reason.
They are implanted in my brain
Ultimately, I believe ace attorney is a tale about love. How far are you willing to go for the people you love? But also, how far are you going to fall for them? Most of this love is platonic, not even romantic in nature / could or could not be seen as such, but really the crux of the matter is that regardless, it all stems from a place of deep affection and/or adoration. Phoenix both became a better person but sacrificed and risked so much because of love, even compromising his integrity and morality at some point. First love for his lost friend, then love for a girl who made him feel adored, then love for his lost mentor and her sister which he couldn't leave alone, then love for a child he needed to provide for. Miles completely and utterly destroyed himself but later glued back the pieces together in order to become better because he felt guilty for his beloved father's death, and later felt guilty for disgracing his legacy. But also his love for his friends and family gave him courage to make himself better. He charters private jets at the drop of an hat and surrenders his badge and breaks the law if need be. Franziska's love for her father made her ruthless and amoral, but her love for her little brother made her a better person. She assists in his and Phoenix's absurd plan to play at defense attorney, helps save Maya, then assists Miles in his cause for Kay. Lana's love for her sister made her throw her morals out the window, ruining the life of many people. But her love for her little sister also made her realize her mistakes and atone for them. Iris loved her sister despite it all and that corrupted her into betrayal, but she also loved Phoenix, and that gave her the courage to realize her mistakes and atone for them. Love is the reason for most plot points - it leads the storyline. It can cause both positive and negative outcomes and I really appreciate the realism in that. The characters truly care for each other, there's just so much love in AA.
