I awakened (or at least found the word/community for it) approaching the peak of the SJW Cringe era, when alterhumanity was treated as an inherent punchline about Triggered Snowflakes and tumblr users and the “on all levels except physical” vine to people outside of the community. We were Furries But Worse. I’d imagine the age of the Tiktok Therian stereotype could potentially be similar-feeling. Would love to hear!

i consider myself incredibly lucky to have never downloaded TikTok, because every time i join any new online community on here, i hear about how much worse it is there and feel like I’ve dodged a bullet.

I’m VERY new to the actual alterhuman community, but I’ve definitely been kinda wolfy (walking on all fours, growling, snapping, biting, phantom ears) all my life, so I’ve just kinda been glad I’m not alone :) (even if it does still feel kinda lonely to be a therian who doesn’t believe I’m like a reincarnated world or whatever, and I don’t mind being in a human body, it’s just annoying to be different, but that’s kinda how I feel about everything that sets me apart (neurodivergence, transness, etc.))

i kinda wish there were like… less confusing words? There are a lot of terms and I don’t feel like I really understand what most of them mean, but I’m sure that just comes with time

Former Wolves

The beings around me rave of past lives of fangs and fur when their souls were complete but those days are long past.

They tell me I was a wolf my days spent for the pack that when the forests of Yellowstone call me it’s memory of what I once was.

I was not a wolf. There was not a day in decades past where my teeth tore elk sinew where my brothers guarded me as I slept, and I them in turn. My dreams are not those of worlds past, but of the brave new world to come.

I am a wolf. This experience is not former though my body as they see it is gangly and furless strewn with black fabric and burdened with others’ will.

It is that which I inhabit now that is the wolf for the wolf never left and was always there to begin.

so uh… this one’s about how I. I don’t believe in reincarnation. To be clear I don’t think there’s anything wrong with other people believing it, but I don’t (or at least, I don’t think reincarnation made me a therian). I wish I could. It's the thing I desire the most in my life. I wish I could rip off this skin and finally be free as the animal I am, even with the risks, even if it means ending my life in one day by being hunted by wolves. But I was already born here, I was already cursed with knowledge beyond what a deer should know and the feelings of attachment this human brain experiences in relation to others. If I could I would leave this society forever, but this body has so many limitations. I am here, my mind wouldn't bear leaving my family and my body wouldn't survive in the woods, even when my heart screams begging for me to run.

Yes, no one has to know. Yes, I can take my time with telling people. I have been made aware. But the feeling doesn't go away.

I wish I could just tell them without fearing they'd view me badly. And you're probably thinking, "If they view you badly, they aren't real friends!" Well, sort of?
