"This no fit," he slurs to the hallway, and then begins snorting to himself, shoving against the door uselessly. His bed is inside, his things, his laptop! Holy shit, what if someone has locked him out of his apartment, and stolen his laptop?

"Dun steal my stuff," he says to the door. "Please, I don’t have much— my sister’sss a lawyer ‘nd she’ll be mad."

He should probably call his sister seeing as how he can’t access his home. Or, he could avoid humiliation and climb up the fire escape. Excellent, a plan has been decided.

Derek squints up at the first metal ladder, and wishes he didn’t live so high up. He jumps to pull it down, and there’s a horrible clanging that hurts his ears.
