Something that comes up often in art that's about artists is that you'll be told that this character made an amazing, record-shattering, highly acclaimed book or movie or song or whatever and then you'll see the piece of art they made and it's painfully mid. Like, you have to accept that within the world of the story being told, that's the most amazing piece of art ever but you're sitting there like, "There's no way that would ever catch on like that IRL."
Anyway, shout out to KPop Demon Hunters for sidestepping that problem entirely by having the in universe songs chart so high IRL that they beat out actual established KPop groups, proving definitively that those songs WOULD have set the charts on fire and beat out their competition even as the new kids on the block.
i liked kpop demon hunters but i think that the most important thing is that it is the second most watched netflix movie of all time. an animated film about a korean girl band that slays demons. it’s on track to be the number one watched netflix movie, surpassing the current number one which is some hollywood heist film packed with a-listers. nature is, in fact, healing.
It's the number one movie now, by almost 100,000,000 views. The soundtrack has broken all kinds of records, as has 'Golden.' Here in the US Rumi, Mira, and Zoey are the most popular choices for Halloween costumes. It's still the top kids movie on Netflix and third overall.
Nature is healing beautifully.

it’s safe to say i think about this video at least four times a day, i can quote almost the whole thing from memory
no, actually, i can’t be friends with someone who has opposing political views. this is mostly due to the fact my views are “people deserve rights”
We live in the dumbest, lamest cyberpunk dystopia possible.
So LA has been — and continues to — protest against ICE. These protests haven’t gotten any smaller or lost any momentum, but social media wasn’t reflecting it.
TikTok users, realizing that the platform/other social media are censoring/deleting/shadowbanning these protest videos, decided to find a workaround.
They’re calling it the LA Music Festival. Ice detention centers and other protest locations are “stages.” The hottest band is Rage Against the Machine. “Here’s what gear you should be bringing to stay safe at the LA Music Festival.”
And it fucking worked.
TikTok has become a proving ground for a lot of new music, meaning lots of labels and organizations have lucrative deals with TikTok to promote their new artists and music festivals. So they absolutely cannot censor the words “music festival” or train the algorithm to ignore it, or they risk endangering that very important revenue.
So now protest videos are flooding feeds again, but it’s the LA 24/7 Music Festival. Truly an incredible timeline we’ve landed in.
During the Civil Rights Movement of the 60s, radio broadcasts would refer to upcoming marches as "parties" and use other such euphemisms to sneak calls to organize past censors.
This is, frankly, a timeless strategy, just done online.
Gonna be singing this (and this) all night.
