I love your X-Men art!! For the request thing, would you consider drawing Laura Kinney or Dani Moonstar? <3
thank you so much! I can’t believe I’ve never drawn her before
Older au art i never posted :[ last month of semester wish me luck 🍅🍅🍅
Saying Laura Kinney allegorical sexual assault is crazy considering that very much did happen just explicitly but you must understand. The X-Force of it all.
When the adults around me take advantage of the fact that I don't know I can say "no" to things to get me to do whatever they want.
the actual Feanorian crime that makes them tragically evil and doomed in the narrative is "questioning the moral authority of the gods somewhat" and this is pretty thematically important to Silm. that's why the atrocities explicitly come from the oath - they themselves are being punished with the violence for their defiance as realized with the oath, the cumulation of Feanor's distrust of the Valar's release of Morgoth, in which they swear to try to fight any Vala who defies them among others. it's why Feanor's desire to leave Aman (primarily to be free of the Valar, and for his people to be free of the Valar) is evil-coded where Galadriel's desire to leave Aman (to explore and try out ruling lands out of a desire for power itself) is not. it's why Celebrimbor's desire to rebuild after the war without divine help instead of returning to Aman dooms him just as much as Feanor, and why the idea that the Mirdain wanted to make Ost-in-Edhil just as beautiful as Aman is treated as a shocking rebellion.
yes, and i suspect that this is why egregious feanorian apologisim is rampant in fandom, to the extent of downplaying what in other contexts might be more readily addressed as serious and systemic acts of violence and conquest (note: it's me! I am guilty here!):
within the text the acts of violence are treated as inextricable and the result of said religious rebellion. And it you don't happen to share Jirt's religious leanings, said rebellion just. Looks like a reasonable fucking response to outright neglegent and occasionally violently retributive dieties*. And if the rebellion is meant to be read as the greater crime, then it creates an impulse to similarly dismiss what are read as downstream effects, even when logically one knows that those should be (and often are) treated as the essential crimes.
Adding some interesting takes from the tags.
Old doodle I found on my laptop, enjoy :3
laura >:)
I don’t think I ever posted this but an old homage of Laura/Wolverine and Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts
I saw the original of this meme and thought it was so Gabby coded
there are 1milllion+ comics and yep you have to read all of them.
deep sigh
comic book fans im going to hold all of our hands here when i say this but you need to acknowledge the racism of a run when you talk about it even though its really uncomfortable. honestly you don’t even need to earnestly condemn it (though you SHOULD) but the bare minimum is you have to acknowledge it exists in a run and tell people about it when you talk about it.
by glossing over racism until the surface is smooth, you are setting every other reader up for nasty surprises because new readers will not know it is there. this is the basic concept of trigger warnings. everyone finds racism too uncomfortable to mention, probably because people have a difficult time admitting that they enjoyed something that contains overt racism, so they’d rather just pretend it doesn’t exist.
i cannot count the number of times ive cracked open a run for the first time that everyone raves about thinking i know what happens only to be smacked in the face by an absurd, stomach-turning racial caricature. and i’m a dedicated comic reader! as a community by failing to warn new readers about racism in our storylines, it contributes to making comic spaces less diverse because people who are curious about a run are much more likely to be turned off by suddenly confronting something triggering without warning and guess who is more likely to find that shit triggering because its not white people!
just fucking acknowledge it! talk about it! bare minimum, and it’s gross to even have to say it!
