Howdy! You've found my evil autism blog! Congrats! (not actually evil) (and actually it's not that autism focused either)
I wanted a place where all my autism and really just general disability posts could go so I can find them all easily, so this is it!

I’m actually going to reblog a thing just because this is really important.
As someone who has epilepsy and used to have several grand mal seizures a day, I’d also like to add that “offer help” can range anywhere from keeping the person calm to explaining to them where they are and what they were doing to even just telling them they should sit and rest for a while longer (lack or coordination is common, and it can be hard to walk straight or see clearly).
It’s okay for them to take up to a half hour to fully regain their bearings and sort out what they were doing prior to the seizure. Just answer any questions calmly and be there for support.
If they come around and you start to panic or shake them or ask them what the heck is wrong with them they are going to freak out and panic too.
I cannot stress it enough that this is bad.
If someone has a seizure and they come out of it, please. please stay calm. They are likely disoriented and confused, even if it’s only for a minute or two, and you don’t want them panicking on top of that because they can have another seizure as a result.
Also to add: 5 minutes is generally seen as the cutoff time. If the seizure goes on for more than 5 minutes, it becomes a life-threatening emergency and you should call an ambulance, because this is the time at which a seizure starts risking permanent brain damage to the person.
Additionally, if the person is somebody who you know and who trusts you, it can be helpful to takr a video of them seizing. Obviously don’t do this with strangers, but when it is somebody’s first time having a seizure, it can be incredibly beneficial to doctors when diagnosing somebody if they can see what the seizure actually looked like.

One of the best things I've done for myself as a disabled person is get rid of my shame around sitting or laying in weird places. Bathroom floor? Check. Random sidewalk? Check. Lobbies of various professional buildings? So many checks. It is not embarrassing or shameful for me to take care of my body but it is embarrassing for architects and city designers to value appearances over accessibility
How do I know if I'm experiencing a delusion?
The first thing to know is that recognizing a delusion does not come easily- especially if you are not experienced in dealing with them. most people will only figure out that a belief is a delusion after the delusion has passed.
Here are some questions you can ask yourself:
Do trusted people in my life insist that one (or several) of my beliefs are not true?
Do I have a hard time backing up my beliefs with evidence? (particularly evidence that other people can agree with)
Are my beliefs consistent with my previous experiences? (e.g if you think your friend is trying to harm you, has that friend ever tried to harm you in the past or expressed that they want to harm you? is this a sudden change in character for them?)
Do I know what led to me believing this? (if this belief is new, do you know why you changed your mind?)
Do I have a hard time listening to other people's perspectives on my belief because my belief feels so obviously true?
Do I feel like other people are trying to lie to me or manipulate me when they offer alternatives to my belief?
No answer to these questions can single handedly rule in or out a delusion. They are just questions to ask yourself if you are questioning your belief.
Hey, fellow diabetics? You need to eat something at least every 3 hours. Plus eat within 30 minutes of waking up.
I keep reminding people of this on a diabetic support group on facebook when they say their blood sugar is high despite eating all the "right" foods, and then they'll come back later and say, "wow, eating lunch really helped my blood sugars. Who knew?" And I'm like, yes, our bodies like being fed.
I've noticed doctors and nutritionists never bring this up, and so many diabetics panic about how food affects their blood sugar, so they just don't eat enough. And our bodies respond to that by raising our blood sugar.
We need at least 3 meals and two snacks a day. Yes, your blood sugar goes up after eating. This is normal. Please eat.
My new doctor and i were talking about this. She explained it like this:
Your pancreas is like a work site supervisor who gets the workers gathered up and sent out to deal with sugar in the blood stream. When you eat regularly, it lets your pancreas know to keep workers on hand. But if you only eat once or twice a day, your pancreas gets overwhelmed with the demand for workers surly coming in. And more sugar will be in your blood stream for longer.
Do your pancreas a solid. Eat regularly.
(Also because i lost this addition: eat something within 30 minutes of waking up)
i think something people dont get about psychosis is a psychotic episode doesnt feel like youre going insane or anything adjacent to that. it more so feels like youre being given insight to something you werent supposed to. this is why its extremely hard to realize that you are in psychosis.
if you have violent intrusive thoughts I love you. if you have sexual intrusive thoughts I love you. if you have bigoted intrusive thoughts I love you. you are not your thoughts and you are worthy of love and care and help and affection. you are not a monster you’re a person going through it and that’s okay
I saw you made a post before about how you didnt know how carers are supposed to act can you maybe give some points about it because i might need one soon and im wondering whats good and bad
Honestly I’m still figuring it out, but here are some things I think I’ve figured out so far:
- carers should not act like you are a massive inconvenience if you need help/ ask for something to be done differently
- carers are not your friend while they are at work. They can be friendly and you can be friendly back, but they aren’t your friend while at work. Again this can be tricky, and I have one carer who I’m now friends (and colleagues) with, but there are important differences. When they were still my carer there were different social rules.
-if you go to a group or event a carer should be in the background unless you’ve specified otherwise. I once went to a trans group with a cis carer who spoke (a lot) during a group discussion. This was absolutely not okay. I really struggled with this at first because it would be so rude to do this in other forms of relationships. Becoming okay with this and insistent on it has improved my life so much.
- carers don’t get a say in what you do, wear, or go unless that is part of their job (say if you need help to tell what clothes are appropriate for the weather). This is a big difference between friends and carers. If I’m going somewhere with a friend they might suggest alternatives they find more fun, a carer shouldn’t do this.
- carers should respect that they are in your home/ life. So they shouldn’t leave their stuff all over your house, even if they stay for several days at a time. They shouldn’t move things without you asking. I have a room in my house where my carers stay overnight, and a designated cupboard in the kitchen/ shelf on the fridge and I expect their things to stay in those spaces.
That’s what I can think of off the top of my head. Anyone who has a carer is free to add to this.
I wish more people got this because some ‘low-empathy’ people are the most compassionate and sympathetic in the universe, and I hate it when that’s taken to mean ‘unfeeling and probably hostile’ when nothing could be further from the truth
Or, as my dad put it,
Sympathy: I know how you feel Empathy: I feel how you feel Compassion: is there anything I can do to help?
Sympathy: that sucks bro empathy: I feel that compassion: want me to send you some puppy and kitten pictures to make you feel better?
Posts like this make me feel so much better. It always seems like society treat responses to others pain as though empathy is the most important kind. I am around 85% compassionate and this post helped me not feel like I am a monster because of that for once.
So I know that I've said that psychotic experiences like hallucinations, delusions and paranoia are normal human experiences. But I want to make it clear that they can become disordered. Most people who have a psychotic experience would not qualify or benefit from a diagnosis of a psychotic disorder. But, there are definitely a lot of us out there that do qualify and benefit from having a diagnosis as it can lead to much needed treatment. Although I cannot advise anyone on how to manage their specific mental health treatment, I thought I would make a generalized guide of when to seek mental health support/a diagnosis (in my opinion).
If your psychotic symptoms are reoccurring without an environmental cause, you should probably seek out professional help. By not having an environmental cause I mean having psychotic symptoms outside of the influence of drugs, sleep deprivation, stress, trauma, or when you are falling asleep or waking up. How often they reoccur can be a deciding factor in diagnosis, and the specific amount and time in between varies based on diagnostic criteria. But I would say if it keeps happening, and isn't just a one off thing, or something that happened a handful of times throughout your life, you should probably seek out professional help.
If your psychotic symptoms are distressing you, you should probably seek out professional help. By distressing I mean that you are having a big emotional reaction to them, that they affect you after they are gone. If a psychotic symptom triggers a mental health crisis, emotional outburst or panic attack, you should probably seek help.
If your psychotic symptoms are impacting your daily life or keeping you from doing things you would normally do, you should probably seek out professional help. If you are avoiding things or places like taking a shower, eating or leaving the house because of your symptoms, or if you are isolating from people or the world all together, you should probably seek help.
If none of these apply but you still feel that you should bring up your symptoms to a mental health professional, then please do. It doesn't necessarily have to lead to a diagnosis or treatment, but it can be helpful to get an outsiders perspective. If sharing your symptoms does lead to diagnosis, it will be okay, diagnosis is just a way to categorize symptoms so you can get more accurate treatment. Life doesn't end at diagnosis, it just begins your journey to better understand yourself and find ways to get help.

Mall bathroom ranking (all out of five stars)
Door: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ manual sliding door, light to open/shut but the lock was difficult and stiff
Space: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ manual wheelchair would fit well but a larger powerchair would struggle
Toilet: ⭐️⭐️ hand rail on one side, quite high up, stiff flush button
Amenities: ⭐️ no seat or changing table, hand dryer that was quite high up and no paper towels, sink was easy but manual, soap dispenser was really stiff and IT WAS OUT OF SOAP >:(, no emergency alert button/string, no bin?
Overall: ⭐️⭐️ kinda ass ngl. Do better.
just so you know high toilets are actually an accessibility feature! they're intended to be taller than a standard toilet. it's important for sliding transfers between wheelchair and toilet as the greater the height difference between transfer surfaces the greater the risk of falling and they make standing easier for people with mobility disabilities that make standing up difficult. the ADA and accessibility guidelines in other places actually require accessible toilets to be taller than average (though it's a standard that is rarely followed)
yeah I think re toilets its an access thing both ways.
taller is much much better for my powerchair, as the lowest it can go is still taller than most toilets. that makes it an uphill transfer to get back in my chair, which is not something i can do.
ive been trialling a toilet seat raiser at my house, which has been good. i can elevate my powerchair to transfer onto the loo, then lower it so it's an easier downhill transfer getting off after.
i have heard manual chair users often preferring a lower toilet tho, as for them sometimes its an uphill transfer to get onto the loo otherwise? its been years since i used a manual tho
i think ideally bathrooms would have a taller and shorter option but so far unfortunately ive only seen that in places that have a kid-size toilet as well as the default one

I know the "disabled villain" trope isn't good representation but y'know. I DO kind of get it. Sometimes my whole body hurts so bad that I could probably make an evil death laser. Sometimes things claim to be wheelchair accessible and are so incredibly inaccessible that I consider world domination just to fuckin fix it. I can see the appeal of becoming Evil And Scary to stop the stares. I am tired of being Polite and (ironically) Accommodating, answering "what's wrong with you?" over and over. Having minions would also be quite helpful.
