Average is OK too!
Congratulations! To all the children who made it through this educational ordeal called board exams. ICSE, CBSE, State board irrespective of what board you wrote for, your scores are fine. I might be making a controversial statement here. Average or below is ok too! Yes, I can say this many times over. As much as I appreciate students scoring high, I also appreciate those who scored second or third class or just passed. Everyone surely made an honest effort.
This post is for my son, my dear Vedant, your scores are an achievement and a testament to your hard work and dedication in studies. Preparing for board exams required discipline, focus, and a strong work ethic. The persistent pressure by the teachers, the school, friends, family, society was overwhelming. Their expectations riding on young shoulders; not fair! Yet, you managed to do well. You scored a happy 72% while most in your class and in the family circle scored 90+ percent. Good for them as it is for you. So smile and keep your head high. The marks here does not define your intelligence but, merely tested your memory capacity. That's all. I have seen you struggle to understand the formulas and concepts but, you never gave up. You persisted and remained committed to your goal, and spent extra hours trying to understand. Some got it easy and you wondered how they did. You read and re-read until you understood it. Like all your friends, you gave up on your favourite activities to spend extra study hours. Everyone you met gave you (unwanted) free advises. As a good boy, you listened. I have seen you feel helpless and hopeless and ready to give up even. The frustration of not getting some math problem right was intimidating even to me. You have withstood the first storm in the Indian educational system. Only I know your struggle and how relieved you are today to have made it through. You must know that success is not only measured by the final outcome, but also by the journey that leads to it.
We know that you are good at so many other things other than studies. You are kind, generous, and always willing to go the extra mile to help others. You handle disappointments way better than most your age. Mature beyond your years and know to respect everyone. Your sense of humor and the way to see life as an adventure is a life lesson everyone who meets you will learn. Your dreams and aims are valid even though they're different. I'll always remember the days you told me not to fall for the matrix, it's a whirlpool. I agree with you wholeheartedly today. You think different and I know you'll do well in whatever you choose to do next. Stay focused, positive, set new goals and continue building upon this success. I wish you all success but, have the courage to face failures and get back up to get it right. As they say, if plan A doesn't work, there's Plan B and 24 other alphabets! So with that, I say, CHEERS! You did it. Take that well deserved break and enjoy the milestone success. You did good and I'm proud of you as always.
Love, Amma.
