“Well you’re in luck ‘cause winging it just happens to be the one thing I do best,” she smirked, pulling herself out of her thoughts before turning her attention back to Dodger, watching him as he made his way down the trail, impressed at how well he followed Zac’s commands. “Well, we sure are. You comin’, gramps?”
Jynne wasn’t sure what she was doing here, to be honest. She’d left on her trip to get away from Elias Pointe, from Jack, from everything she felt. Part of her never wanted to come back, pick a place along the gulf, start a new life for herself - but then something changed. She couldn’t pinpoint exactly when it happened, but soon Jynne found herself eagerly checking her notifications for something new from Zac, another comment on one of her posts, or a new upload of Dodger. They started talking nearly every day, and before she knew it, the entire reason she left town began to fade away, making her think that maybe sticking around wouldn’t be so bad after all.
She had to set some rules for herself though - things were going to be different if she came back. Jynne knew better than to cut herself off cold turkey, so she decided to wean herself slowly. Fewer drugs, less alcohol, fewer hook-ups… but that was already showing to be more difficult than originally planned, somehow finding herself agreeing to an adventure (definitely not-a-date) with Zac despite every instinct telling her not to.
“It wasn’t awful,” she shrugged, not usually one to usually divulge into too many details, leaving people wanting more. “Some guy kept blowing up my phone though,” Jynne shot him a playful look over her shoulder before continuing. “Had a lot of time to think. Wasn’t where or who I wanna be, y’know? Quarter-life crisis, remember?” Her voice drifted, getting lost in the sound of the wind blowing through the trees around them. “How’s your Insta-training coming along, by the way?” she questioned, probably already aware of his answer, but desperate to move the topic anywhere but herself.
“Someone was blowing up your phone? You need me to take care of him for you?” Zac stopped in his tracks as he teased, Dodger slowing his roll, sniffing off into the foliage. Turning around to face this beautiful woman, he noticed she seemed overall healthier- a little more livelier than the few times he’d seen her before her trip. Whatever did her in, the sun--which he was convinced could brighten anyones spirits-- or the feeling of letting go of everything she knew, it did something miraculous for her. He had felt that freeing of spirit when he left for the NFL, as hard as it was to walk away from everything he knew. It certainly changed him as a person.
But the INSTAGRAM mention. It was a damn struggle. Half the time he forgot the app was even available to him.
“I’m sorry, lady--my instagram training?!” Zac exclaimed. “You know I’ve been waiting a few weeks for my trainer to get back to the states, right? You know of her? She’s about yea-high. Doesn’t smile quite as much as you do, though. Maybe you’d be able to help me. Take a half decent photo of myself, come up with some cheesy caption. Or is that the thing we’re training me not to do?” Zac wasn’t sure he was a fan of the whole world seeing his updates, but he’d do it to keep in touch with this wild, crazy chick. ”No more cheesy.”
“Don’t confuse poor decision-making with destiny. Own your mistakes. It’s ok; we all make them. Learn from them so they can empower you!”

“Once I figured out how coordinates work, yeah,” she quirked a brow in Zac’s direction, questioning his tactics, but if this was a requirement to ‘not be a date’, Jynne supposed she could deal with it. Even though they were both lying to themselves. “So this is the elusive Dodger,” she smiled, crouching low to the ground to greet the pup, giving him a good scratch under his chin. "What’s your daddy got planned for us today, huh boy?”
“Yeah- well, daddy doesn’t even know what he’s doing half the time- just say it- Dodge.” Zac knew what she was saying, and he would save it away, tuck it into the depths of his mind for another place and time-- when they weren’t exploring on the fictional ground of ‘not-a-date’.
“Uh-- I figure we can kinda wing it? Been here a couple times. There’s a cool waterfall. Really peaceful if you wanna come here to clear your head.” Zac said, snapping his fingers for Dodger to start on his way. He knew the path. “You ready?”
There was some idle chitchat as they got their footing for the type of trail it was, Zac letting Dodger lead the way, following behind Jynne as he got himself a better view. “So how was this trip, kid? You looked like you had a blast.”
@jynnedune
“Told you I wasn’t gonna lead you astray, lady.” Zac said, resting lightly against the hood of his car. Dodger was easily as excited to see Jynne as Zac was, but he’d never come out and say it. Chance scaring her away? Never. “You find the place okay?” He asked. “

“Seriously. I was at Rhea’s place last week and she had these, can you believe it? Been looking for these for years. YEARS! Must have bummed ‘em from me one summer and bounced.” He gestured to the sunglasses he refused to take off, “just like when we were kids. She always got everything for being the baby, and the only girl. How did we ever survive?” He threw his finished cigarette with a flourish, blowing the smoke away from his cousin. “So anyway, that’s what I’m thinking career change wise like I was telling you the other day. Not sure yet, nothing’s set in stone. Something a little artsy.” He hadn’t seen Zac in a little bit, and he could see something was up with him. Talking on the phone did no justice. “What have you got going on, what new things to report?”
“Oh, those puppies.” Zac said, as though it was all coming back to him. But he had known for ages about the act of theft. Mainly because he had been the one to plant those dumb ass sunglasses on Rhea’s person. Damn idiot always finds everything. “Can’t believe her sometimes. Seriously. Always had sticky fingers." Though with that, he remembered back to the summer of 2000, where she was a grape popsicle nightmare. Sticky didn’t even cover it.
Zac was quick to turn down the stereo, which was effortlessly bringing him back a few decades too many. “Okay, firstly, this--gotta go.” Zac asked, giving his cousin a bizarre look, which easily broke into laughter. “Give me just a little more time,” Zac sang back.
“Now that I can concentrate-- you thinkin’ about it? Or are you gonna stop thinking and just do it, like Nike?” Zac nudged him. “You’re broody enough to fit the profile of some sap artist. Please do it already.” It was about time Silas started gearing towards a path better suited for him. For years, Zac had encouraged him to take the risks. Some late night adventures in their youth, clutching spray paint cans with some high up climbs left a few cities riddled with Silas’s artistic flexes.
“I have nothing to report to you,” Zac was honest. Nothing much had been going on except for work. And a little dash of DJ. “--Yet. Let me get back to you in a couple days...”
