Okay, so, no, Grey did not have any money to speak of. Nothing he could spend, anyway, and no way to carry anything he found around there. But it was a joke shop and just the window had his eyes sparking with excitement. Maybe they would need a hand, just for a few days. Unloading packages or stocking the shelves. Not that he knew what he was doing, but damned if he wasn't going to give it his best because joke shop. He went in and his eyes were sparkling with wonder as he peeked around the store.

The information on Grey’s past weighed like bricks on Luners thoughts as he confided in him. He normally didn’t stay long enough to learn anything about anyone, to exchange pasts with anyone - but he supposed this was different. He stayed silent as the dead, listening. He thought about his mother handing him off, how it must’ve felt, and what it would be like to be forced to undergo… testing. It almost made him shudder as he let his mind dwell on it.

When Grey finished talking Luner let a quiet air accumulate for a few minutes between them before he spoke again. “I’m sorry.” he said quietly, continuing. “I mean, obviously I can’t ever know what it was like or- or how you felt… but, I don’t have to know you long to know none of it was something you deserved. And, and I’m just sorry - mostly that it’s in the past and that there’s nothing I can do about it.” Then Luner shut up, abruptly. He’d started talking and couldn’t stop, an anomaly. He’d felt something akin to anger swell in his veins which puzzled him even more, but he made sure that didn’t show.

"S’okay," Grey said instantly, shaking his head. "It’s like… Whatever, you know? It’s over. It’s done." He sighed, rubbing his hands over his face and when he dropped them, his eyes were a bit strange, bright and a little hazy. It was something he didn’t even think about anymore, pulling that on himself. Second nature. The smile was back, though, not as bright, far more tired. "It’s fine, man. Like… I got over it. Things happen, but, like, they’re done. They’re over. It all had to happen to make me how I am, to bring me to this place, and as fucked up as stuff was, I got to see a lot of stuff and learn so much and like, you know, be here." He leaned over a bit, shoulder bumping into Luner’s. "I wouldn’t have met you, man, right?" 

That might not have seemed like much of a consolation prize, but Grey was already admittedly infatuated. He could have made a fool of himself long ago at this point. Luner was handsome and sweet, as far as he could tell, interesting, magical in he most literal of ways. How could he not be. “Thank you, I mean. No, I totally didn’t deserve that, but, like, you didn’t deserve whatever made you look like you carry, like, the whole world on your shoulders, but we got that anyway, and we’ll get through it. That’s just, like, what you do. Get through stuff.”

Luner hardly looked at Grey while he waited for an answer, because he could tell that he wasn’t smiling anymore. Upon hearing the male explain languidly what his power was, Luner was slightly perplexed, he’d never heard of that before. He’d never done drugs before.  Then he cast a look towards Grey, one eyebrow raised with inquisitively, “So, is that what you were doing out in Russia?” He asked, uncouthly.

He was curious, but after he asked he realized that Grey seemed tedious about the subject, like he is about his own life. “I mean, it’s okay - if you don’t want to talk about it.” He said quietly, his voice lowered like it usually is. “We all have things that are hard to share.” He said, trying his best to be comforting - but the words came out a little more awkward than planned.

For a moment, Grey was silent, toying with the bedsheets. He didn't look at Luner. Luner didn't seem like the type to be down with the kind of fun that would result in what Grey went through all the time. He didn't answer right away, unsure if he wanted to, and he appreciated that he was given an out. It had been a long time since he refused to answer things like that, though, and he wasn't about to start now. His fingers slid up his arm, ghosting over the fabric that covered track marks he didn't give himself.

"No, it's, uh... It's cool. I'm- Yeah, that's how I got to Russia. My mom- She found out about what I could do and the government was offering a lot of money and shit to people to had information on people like me. I got shipped off for testing and, like, she got a bonus. And a promotion, I think, but I don't... really know. We haven't talked since I was taken away." He shook his head, giving a slight shrug. "I was, uh, I was fifteen. Transferred me to Virginia after a few years. I worked as an agent for a bit, I got through another round of training and shit and then the whole thing turned, like, voluntary. So I got out."

Luner held his breath during the brief silence like a boy in a bomb shelter waiting for explosions. Though he wasn’t expecting Grey to say anything rude, it was quite obvious he didn’t seem to act that way, Luner breathed in as relieved a way as natural to him when his ears were greeted with a compliment. He huffed a breath that clung feebly to the similarities of a short laugh and looked to where Grey had sat up, whilst he remained laying. But he sat up too after a short moment.

"Yeah. I memorized it." Luner confirmed, one had tapping against his temple before dropping back down along with his line of sight. He didn’t speak for a moment, concentrating hard on his own thoughts again before speaking, a bit slowly - like he was trying not to say something that could turn the situation upside down. "What… I mean, if you don’t mind - what can you do?" Luner asked him.

"My memory's like, not really that great, you know? I'm not great at memorizing and stuff. You must be like a bear trap." Grey was still grinning as Luner tapped his temple and dropped it. Through the silence, his smile faded into a curious expression, though, and when the question came about, it dropped away entirely. "Oh," he said softly, clearing his throat and moving away slightly. 

There was a moment where he opened his mouth, then closed it, taking a deep breath. "I, ah..." Another long beat of silence and he licked his lips as he tried to figure out how to phrase it. "I'm, like, I... Have this power where I can, like, replicate the effect of drugs on a person. Sleeping pills, pot, meth, whatever I've taken before, you know?"

Luner tensed again when Grey moved to rest his head softly against his shoulder. It wasn’t that he hadn’t been touched before, he just hadn’t been touched with a… romantic intimacy. He cleared the cotton that had accumulated in his throat, urging himself forward and focusing on his words. “That very night in Max’s room a forest grew, and grew, and grew until the ceiling hung with vines and his walls became the world all around.” His tongue felt too thick for his mouth for a moment and he swallowed hard, his eyebrows pulling together with a look of rapt concentration.

"And… and an ocean tumbled by with a boat for Max, and he sailed off through night and day - and in and out of weeks, and almost over a year… to where the wild things are. And when he came to a place where the wild things are they roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws. Till Max said, ‘Be still!’ and tamed them with a magic trick of staring into their yellow eyes and not blinking once." He continued a bit more coarsely now, almost forgetting he was even telling it to someone else in the first place. "They were frightened and called him the most wild thing of all - and made him king of the wild things. The he said, ‘Let the wild rumpus start!’ ‘Now stop!’ he yelled and sent the wild things off to bed with no supper. And Max, king of all the wild things, was lonely and wanted to be where someone loved him best of all." This time he relaxed a little, and closed his eyes as he finished.

"Then all around from far away across the world he smelled good things to eat, so he gave up being king of where the wild things are.But the wild things cried, ‘Oh please don’t go-we’ll eat you up-we love you so!’ And Max said, ‘No!’ The wild things roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws. But Max stepped into his private boat and waved good-bye and sailed back over a year and in and out of weeks and through a day and into the night of his very own room where he found his supper waiting for him and it was still hot." Luner finished, opening his eyes and glancing down where Grey’s head was lain against him for a second.

For several long moments, Grey was utterly silent, totally enrapt by what he had to say, listening to the story, enthralled. "That was fucking beautiful," he whispered when the story finished and the images faded away. Looking up, he grinned at Luner, then sat up and had to remind himself not to lean over him. He was already pushing it. The light bruising on the man's skin reminded him that this was less precarious than he worried about, but that it was still fresh, new, like the green on Luner's cheek. "You memorized, like, a whole book? It's a book, right?" He doubted he would ever like the book as much as he liked Luner's retelling of it, but when he went out to find it later, he would hear the narration in the man's voice each time he read it. 

"That's a fucking amazing thing you can do," he said, still grinning. Much more interesting than his own gift, but he supposed that was his own opinion. He'd had his all his life. It had always been there, and wasn't really something he could show visually. "Thank you for sharing that with me, Luner."

Luner gave a small, surprised huff - of course, he wasn’t sure how many people read the book, he did know the movie, which had made him assume a lot of people knew of it. Then again he accounted for hat Grey having told him about spending a lot of time out of the country.  He was going to say something about it but got distracted as Grey commented on what he was creating. A soft sort of smile creased his lips now and Luner didn’t register it at all. He wasn’t even thinking about the fact that he was usually reserved, an anomaly in his daily method.

He had a new idea, cocking his head to give a fleeting look at Grey before diverting his stare back to his canvas above them. “The night wore his wolf suit and made mischief of one kind and another-” Luner suddenly said, anunciating himself like a narrator though he read from nothing. The night sky he had made washed over with a white screen, and a boy in a wolf suit strolled across with the cheesy look of troublesome, the exact same visual style of the book embedded in his memory. The story played out in front of them as Luner spoke, clearing his throat. “- his mother called him “WILD THING!” and Max said “I’LL EAT YOU UP!” so he was sent to bed without eating anything.” He laughed a hoarse rasp, not daring a look at Grey. It was something so personal to him, he had no idea why he was sharing it with Grey but he wanted to, reciting the story from memory.

Confusion fell over Grey's face as Luner started, the tone and the words neither one making much sense to him, until the illusion washed away and showed him something new. Then a fresh, excited grin broke over his face and his eyes lit up eagerly. Perhaps he should have kept his distance, accepted all that he was given - which was no small thing at all, mind you - but before he could think about it, Grey shifted, scooting just a little closer and letting his temple rest gently on Luner's shoulder. It was barely a touch at all, just enough pressure for it to be there, but for the first time the entire night, he was silent, enraptured, and only half watching the magic before him. How could he focus on that when Luner was smiling and talking and sharing something beautiful with him?

Imagine person A lightly tracing “I love you” over and over again on person B’s back, assuming that person B is asleep. When person A is lying on their back, getting ready to sleep, person B moves closer and wraps their arms around person A, whispering softly, “I love you too.” Bonus if that’s the first time person A has ever declare their love for person B.

Luner was going to dwell on what Grey had told him about the difficulty of beauty, and about weaponry. But he was also trying not think too much about him saying he was going to be complimented more - for some reason it stirred a small mount of anger in the bit of his stomach,but he forced the emotion off and away. He held his breath as he waited for Grey’s reaction and was alarmed when he heard his exclamation. This apprehension grew when he felt Grey lift off the bed, watching him in his peripheral vision as he had been too hesitant to make eye contact with the male. But when he resumed his place beside him, Luner felt a rush of pleasant relief flood through him, letting out a slightly nauseous and tremoring laugh for a minute.

"Yeah, I figured it out when-" When? He wasn’t going to say that, he rethought his words quickly. "I used to spend a lot of time in my room, figured it out one night when I thought I was dreaming about Where the Wild Things Are." He replied, no smile. "Watch this." He proceeded with haste. In a second the constellations had formed, connecting and becoming 3D, mingling with one another in the small-scale galaxy. "I practiced it every time I stayed in my room, otherwise I probably wouldn’t have discovered I could even do it. A lot of mundane witches can only do the basics like spells, telekinesis and golems. I was sure I’s be one, worse even." He rambled a bit, going quiet, lost in old thoughts for a moment before returning, dragging his arms further from one another by a couple inches and expanding the galaxy wider and larger, then dropping his arms to his sides and letting the picture stay there.

"What's Where the Wild Things Are?" Grey asked softly, his excitement toned down with awe now. He didn't even bother to think about whether or not it might be strange that he didn't know it. Honestly, he'd just grown up so far away from average pop culture for his age, had grown up with a mother uninterested in sharing books with him, with soldiers who didn't have access to those types of books, with keepers who kept him docile with textbooks. By the time he was in the states, he didn't have any reason to know it. 

A sharp breath drew in and Grey's eyes widened, amazed and astounded and excited by what he was being shown. "This is fucking amazing, Luner." He reached up again, tracing Corona Borealis with his fingertip. "That's bad? Those are... I mean, that's, like, way more than what average humans can do, right? But I guess if you grew up with witches, you judge by witch standards." He drew his arm back as Luner expanded the picture, them reached up again and followed Orion's arrow over to Scorpio. His hand fell again, laying beside Luner's thoughtlessly. "When I lived in Virginia, I used to sleep on the roof all the time just to watch the stars at night. In Korea, I used to sneak out and lay out and watch the sky. You could do it from your bedroom."
