bc i hate this issue with the lore, im gonna go ahead and say that after uliana and the villains were caught trying to steal the spellbook, it was asked of other students about the bullying toward bridget, etc. that led to the courtyard fight and was determined that uliana was the ringleader and therefore got a longer/harsher punishment than morgie/maleficent/hades/etc for being the one to spearhead everything, so when that twist happens in the past, its the push that maleficent needs to become the most evil and most feared villain in the universe bc without uliana holding her back theres suddenly a space to become the new big bad and she takes it. and that then leads to maleficent being put away on the isle before the first movie and therefore leading to mal being the little prodigy she was trying to raise before everything goes down and mal turns good
