I’ve never read your stuff, and that doesn’t matter.  You should keep writing.  Stop trying to be good.  Stop trying to write something good.  Just sit down and write the most self indulgent shit you can possibly think of.  Write something you enjoy writing.  Write something that is fun to write.  Write something you would want to read.  Don’t even think about what other people will think about your writing.

Write for yourself.

Fuck everyone else.

Write what you want to write.  Writer what you want to read.

Logically I know I don’t have to be good at something to love it, but emotionally it’s hard to swallow sometimes. And yesterday someone basically said a project I’ve been working on for a long time is bad and it really struck a nerve.

I’m trying not to let one negative opinion get to me though, it’s just harder than I thought it’d be.

I understand.  I do.  Believe me, I’ve been exactly where you are.  One negative comment takes the wind out of your sails and you just wonder why you even bother.  But when that happens, just tell yourself, ever and ever again, “I write for myself, I write because it makes me happy, I write because I love it.”  Even if no one else ever reads a singe word you’ve written, the fact is, you’re written, and that makes you a writers.  How many people can say that, and actually have it be true?

You are right and even if it takes a while to fully believe, I’m going to keep this in mind going forward.

It was just something that kind of hit deep in the moment and still stings, but I’m trying to let it go and just accept that you can’t please everyone and that’s okay!
