Is that the new cool drug that kids are doing these days?
If the drug is ambient/noise music, then yes.

The film Little Miss Sunshine is a love letter to failure and it is one of the greatest movies ever
Backrooms was fine
Minimum Wage came on in the car and @wontbethewater shouted "Babe it's our song!" without hesitation. Why the hell would Minimum Wage be our song
Really liked Obsession and also sickened by it. It has an excellent grip on the horror genre and is loaded with commentary on relationships and autonomy and ugh.
Hey! I just got home from seeing Obsession and I have a bunch of thoughts as well! We're movie twins!
However, I will admit my opinion is somewhat less than totally positive, if only because my friend said it was a very superficial film and I don't want to rave about a film he didn't think was very intellectual. He is, after all, a very intelligent man.
The film is clearly about pregnancy or marriage or intimate violence or some commonality abstracted from all of them, but what I found most disappointing was the fact that Bear’s initial characterization telegraphs the entire way he will act for the entire film. We've all seen pathetic men who wallow in their own self pity a thousand times before. Personally, what I think would be an interesting variation upon that would be to see a character of that sort transform from someone who clings an incredulous pretense of moral propriety to a self-admitted villain who acts boldly. That was sort of what happened in Mussolini: Son of the century. I recommend that mini-series. Like specifically to you. I think you would enjoy it
But to be fair to the movie it was really kind of innovative in a technical sense in the way that they did The Uncanny Valley with the face in the Shadows. Also I don't want to diss the movie too much because it did scare me out of, like, a bad mood. Like it really got the adrenaline going in me.
I mean the film touches on the hierarchies of love that St Augustine talked about. My friend also said that the message of the film was supposed to be that things should be more casual in relationships? if that's the message I sort of resist it but like the message I hope the film was sending I guess would be that if you commit to someone you have to commit all the way, if you ask the same thing from that other person.
But going back to soft boy scumbag thing, I think that sort of character has been done a lot and there's a lot of people who act like that in the real world so I get it but I want to see that sort of character develop into like a self-admitted monster who jettisons any pretense to morality, and thus paradoxically grows more likable because he loses like his hypocrisy.
I totally agree. I mean, I loved it even though I felt bad for liking something so dreary. I'm not familiar with the hierarchies of love but this will spur me to read up on that concept.
I remember being in the theater and thinking about how poignant and dense Nikki's situation was. I think the film was a messed-up examination on the importance of free-will for human beings, especially women, for whom liberty is most often stripped away historically and presently.
I found the whole thing where the *real Nikki* is being subjugated by a *demon Nikki* a bit odd if it's trying to push that message of objectification, unless the demon one is meant to symbolize a higher patriarchal power forcing her into the situation, if that makes sense? Like I think it'd be more interesting if Nikki's inhibitions and willpower was being overwhelmed by the wish, rather than outright puppeteered, still with terrifying moments of clarity on her end. But maybe I only think that way because it feels more relatable to my own psyche.
Frankly, I didn't think about Bear's characterization that much. I don't think his being kinda cliché took away from the film because he's kind of just a stand-in for anyone's lame boyfriend, and I kind of tucked him away in my head as just a narrative device to explore what's going on with Nikki. But I get the frustration.
Overall I think the film was an excellent example of the horror genre and how it can explore ideas in memorable ways, although I dont think it's the best horror movie ever I think it was a really good one.
I read about half of a Junji Ito manga and couldn't finish it. For one, I'm not used to the format, but also the female love interest was so, so stupid. She just kept complaining and acting unreasonable so that the male lead could go and save her and she get mad about it. The misogyny in the writing was bleeding through the pages
Glit summer
"Glit" which is pronounced "Gah-Leet" is a coin termed by @wontbethewater which is the sound he makes in the back of his throat over and over again when he's trying to get on my nerves. So when you reference glit summer know it is utter nonsense
