Homosexuality and what the Bible has to say
It’s wrong, point blank. It’s a sin and an abomination in the sight of the Lord Almighty, because it defies the very nature of man. God made man and woman (Genesis 1:26-27). He created woman from man’s flesh and brought her to him , and man has to leave his parents and become one flesh with his WIFE (Genesis 2:18-24). Husbands ought to love their WIVES (Ephesians 5:25-27) as they love Christ, not their HUSBANDS.The same applies to women. Women are to submit to (note: mutual love and respect) their HUSBANDS as they submit to Christ (Ephesians 5:22) not to their WIVES. So the act of 2 men or 2 women performing sexual acts together defies what God said was good.
Many people say that there is no proof that condemns homosexuality. They say it’s ok because it’s free, open love. They even call the people who call them out on their sin, haters and homophobes. Personally, I understand that some may speak out of hurt, as the people they may have approached first with their condition may have shunned them or shown disgust in them, or simply out of ignorance, just following the crowd. Nonetheless, as a disciple of Jesus, I have a duty to call out sin as it is, and shed light on it. I don’t do this out of hatred for anyone in the LGBTQ+ community, rather out of hatred for their sin.
To anyone in the LGBTQ+ community reading this, I love you, my brother or sister, and because I love you, I have to tell you the truth. I need to point out your sin and try to convince you to turn away from it, so when the time comes, we can all be together with our Father in Heaven. I was prompted by the Holy Spirit to point out this sin in particular, because it’s one of the more dangerous sins that the world has normalised to be seen as good (to the point where there’s now a whole month for it). Don’t take this out of context, please.
With that said, behold, the Word of God. To prove that God detests homosexuality, and wishes for His children to turn away from this sin and return to Him.
(Note #1: I use the NIV version of the Bible, it’s easier for me to understand that way. Note #2: The different translations of the Bible have nothing to do with the message itself. It’s all the same word of God from the same God.)
Right off the bat, before we actually get to verse 22, the Lord gives Moses laws that condemn several sexual practices that people are not supposed to participate in such as incest (Lev. 18:6-14), adultery (Lev. 18:15-16,18,20), pedophilia (Lev. 18:17), beastiality (Lev. 18:23), and homosexuality (Lev. 18:22). The Lord makes it very clear in this chapter that these are detestable sins, and must not be committed, and the one who does “must be cut off from their people”(Lev.18:29). Please note, that despite this, God does not hate homosexual people, rather He despises the practice of homosexuality. The same applies to the other mentioned sins; He does not hate the sinners, He loathes the sins.
“If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their heads.”
Now the reason why the Lord had said this is because, again, the act of homosexuality is a sin, God utterly loathes sin, and as said by the apostle Paul (formerly Saul) in Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death…” but because Jesus Christ had not yet been killed and raised from the dead at the time this law was written, this is how the people who practiced this sin (and other sins) were punished. However, now that Jesus Christ was put to death and was raised back to life (almost 2000 years ago), our sins will be washed clean if we believe and have faith in Him, and we will achieve eternal life in Him. Homosexuality is a sin (and I’ll keep saying it over and over), and God hates it, which is why it was deserving of death, but by repenting and living by Christ, you will be spared from the punishment of eternal separation from God we all deserve as sinners.
Many will argue that the first 2 scriptures no longer apply, because of how ruthless God was in the Old Testament (which I disagree with. God is not ruthless, He despises sin, and as there was no equivalent sacrifice to pay the heavy debt of sin, He had little tolerance for sin, yet a lot of mercy for His people). Therefore, the following includes passages from the New Testament.
This passage starts off by stating that people who know about God but choose to ignore or suppress His truth have no excuse when judgement comes, because God expresses His glory through His creations (especially us, His greatest creation). Instead, people turned to idols and relied on shameful, disgusting lustful feelings they felt for each other to produce temporary comfort and peace, defiling themselves and each other. As such, God yields people and lets them indulge in these acts out of respect for their free will, and because of this, people abandon the natural order and are filled with all kinds of uncleanness. Paul even mentions that such things deserve death (again), not only the people who practice these acts, but also those who support and encourage it.
Many homosexuals (and their supporters) are under the assumption that because they are Christians and believe in Jesus’ death and resurrection, that they will be saved. However, this passage makes it crystal clear that as long as they hold on to their lustful desires for the same sex, they CAN NOT and WILL NOT inherit the kingdom of God. In fact, Jesus Himself said in Luke 9:23, that anyone who claims to a true disciple of His must deny themselves, which means to give up their worldly attachments, as it is considered idolatry otherwise. Homosexuality is a fleshly desire and identity that people tend to put above God. As such, they deny truth and deny God, and the way the world spins the truth is that if God cannot accept their forms of love, He must not love them, which is a lie. God is love, and he who doesn’t know the true nature of love, does not know God (1 John 4:8). Jesus said in Matthew 22:37 that the greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart, soul and mind and in John 14:15 if we love Him, keep all of His commands.
Basically sums up everything previously stated. Homosexuality is a sin (told you :D), God’s law condemns sins and anyone who practices homosexuality is a sinner deserving of death. But by turning away from sin, repenting and giving your life to Jesus Christ, you can escape the eternal punishment we all deserve. In case you missed it, it is even mentioned among other detestable sins, such as murder and dishonesty, showing just how serious of a sin it is in the eyes of God.
This is all I have to say. There is more proof found in the Bible, but these really stood out to me the most to convey this message. I hope this finds the right people in time. To God be the glory. Amen.
