This is a sketch of a Mitarashi Dango selling stall located (apparently) in Takayama. I did this sketch based on a random photo I found on the Internet but you already figured out the exact spot, it’s even on Wikipedia:
WIKIPEDIA
I wanted to paint this using a new tool I’m still experimenting with: the LAMY Safari fountain pen filled with Sailor Sei-Boku pigment blue ink. The ink is waterproof so I can use it like this, with my watercolors but because it’s blue it does not overwhelm the picture like black lines tend to do. I’m still experimenting with this approach but I like how it looks so far.
You can re-watch the live YouTube stream during which I painted this sketch from start to finish:
Technical details: * Paper: Canson 180 Degree Sketch ArtBook * Sketch: 0.5mm 2B mechanical pencil * Lines: LAMY Safari M and Sailor Sei-boku ink * Colors: My main 50 colors Schmincke set
To find out more - all the details of my tools are on my website mateuszurbanowicz.com in the TOOLS and FAQ section
