there's a beautiful kind of contrast in that dio is surorunded by people willing to live, to serve, and to die for him. versus his daughter, who is doomed to love people who cannot stay, people who want to choose her but can't, people who are almost always 'right person / wrong time & wrong universe' scenarios.

mermaid au for self indulgent reasons. dante is actually half mermaid — her mother, enya, is a sea witch who enjoys luring sailors to their doom. her father, dio, was a handsome seafaring lord with a duplicitous background. how exactly these two met and why enya chose to bear his child rather than drown him remains unknown. regardless, the union produced dante, a beautiful mermaid gifted with a necklace by her mother that enables her to seamlessly travel back and forth between land & sea. dante has a tendency to fall in love very easily with mortals, often longing for a recreation of the ‘love’ she believes her parents had, and will lure them back to the sea; only to be bitterly disappointed that they always drown & die.
