my personal angst vs emotional whump distinction is that whump is about pain. to some extent, whump is about recreating the visceral texture of pain in ways a reader can feel vicariously, can sink their teeth into. and it doesn't just include pain, it's about pain. angst can include pain but be about grief or a person or a relationship or loss or regret or... etc. whump is About the Pain.

i do consider recovery whump and the comfort in hurt/comfort to be whump; that's not an exception, it's that stories about relieving and/or recovering from pain are still, indirectly, About Pain.

Okay so I just...I can't. I gotta revisit these panels AGAIN I'm sorry lmao HE IS NOT TALKING TO SELINA in the panels in which he is talking to Selina. These are the things he CANNOT say to the Joker and is actually a continuation of THEIR conversation; he's literally telling the Joker he can't let anyone hurt him, but he can't say that. He can't tell the Joker that even though the Joker has infuriated him; and ofc he doesn't let him out there to die. This is literally a Joker conversation with Selina that he wants to have instead with Joker. "You're too nice to kill me." "You're so nice Bruce Wayne." And again, note the orange clothing through-line. Clown in his head, Cat in his bed. Edit: Also note the positioning of both characters. Joker is in very similar, mirrored visual positioning to Selina!!

So with the help of Lé Muses and also overdose dosage Vyvance i finally have enough braincells at my disposal to write a three part meta on why Wayleska is such distinct flavour of batjokes in which Bruce and This Version Of Joker really fucking love each other and save each other at every point and.

midway into writing part one of the series i remembered that by blowing up Wayne Manor Jeremiah takes away every trace of Bruce's childhood from him so they could be reborn together in a new fairytale. Every favourite childhood vinyl, picture frames, letters, fieldtrip notice papers, scrapbooks, hidden drawing and dairy notebooks, height marker lines on wooden doorways. Every trace of Alfred too, and Jeremiah even tried to wipe Alfred off inside and out.

And the thing Bruce did in return is, he took Jeremiah's bomb to Wayne Tower and told Selina about how he remembered playing in these halls by the stairs, and he set the timer on the bomb and blew the building. It's an insane unbelievable gesture, romance of the highest order, "Have everything, have all of me, leave no trace."
