Unpopular opinion: Erasing/willfully ignoring Trixie’s Native American heritage because you don’t like her for whatever reason is racist. Having a paler complexion doesn’t negate her Ojibwe heritage and people need to stop calling her white as a way to dismiss her.
Idk, I think when people call her white they mean white-passing. Trixie does benefit greatly from being white-passing and that privilege doesn’t erase her native heritage. Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t Trixie identify herself as white anyways? I don’t think people are dismissing her or erasing her native heritage, just pointing out that her being white-passing is part of the reason she is so popular with the fandom.
I think it can go both ways. Like, when a POC says that drag race has a race issue and then a white person uses Trixie’s mixed ancestry to try to counter that’s kinda iffy. On the other hand if a native person wants to claim Trixie to celebrate their heritage that’s a different case. At the end of the day, Trixie does benefit from the color of her skin. And that’s because drag race doesn’t just have a race problem it also has a colorism problem and those two issues interact. You’ll find that often among queens of mixed races those whose skin is lighter (Aja, Naomi, Violet, Adore) tend to get more attention
