Yes he is brutal and i enjoy it when alternative ways of victory comes up but every character is brutal. Nobunagas just the best at it! Lmao. I saw a post about how other characters resent his brutality but they just contribute to it by waging war against him like LOL that’sso true.

i know people have already talked a lot about how cybird kinda fumbled with kicho (even if he did make me kick my feet several times), but i genuinely feel like he could’ve turned out better if the narrative actually didn’t try to paint out his reasoning behind trying to make the warring states last forever as something any reasonable person would think that not even mai could really refute the inherent holes in his backstory when he was 500 years in the future.
i loved the downright creepy vibes he gave me in motonari’s route. pairing that with his genuinely ignorant reasoning behind betraying nobunaga, if the ikesen writers actually, like, locked in, he could’ve been such the well meaning but delused freakster he seems to be in motonari’s route that hasn’t properly processed and grieved his sister’s death (which kicho’s route did note as a contribution to his way of logic).
all i’m say is that if they were going to commit to kicho’s raison d’être then they should’ve done the exact opposite of rationalizing it. i feel like kicho should not have been as much green of a flag as he was portrayed to be.
also i’m still kinda disappointed on how little nobunaga was around in kicho’s romantic route (haven’t read his dramatic) when he’s literally such a significant character to his story and it’s been made clear to me at least how much they meant to one another. if he does get a sequel (if any of the act 2 guys do. i imagine they will? i hope? idk) i hope it’s there that they explore those two more. i’m very shameless about nobukicho.
i always thought kennyo was so underrated before i did his route and i really hate to say that. not that i don’t think he’s still underrated now, but kennyo is honestly the Potential Man in all of ikesen. an awful thing keeps happening to me where i read a route of a character i liked and then i feel less for them afterward. i love kennyo, really, and his route was sweet. but i feel like, and this may just be me and i’m stupid, what made him abandoned vengeance wasn’t strong enough…? i read his dramatic route hoping for dinner and got a snack. idk how to word this, but i feel like it wasn’t that well delved into or anything as to why kennyo stopped? if he didn’t want the person he loves to get hurt by his revenge in turn (either from them literally almost dying as in canon or being heartbroken when he’s dead), why does that not apply to ranmaru? i don’t understand what makes mai so unique from someone who he’s known since he was a boy. i love kennyo and ranmaru’s relationship so i really do wish we’d gotten to see more of it. idk i think it would’ve hit different if it was ranmaru or shingen. plus, like, mai never really gave an argument that convinced kennyo to change his path.
i’m used to my vengeful angsty tsunderes taking over 500 episodes to cease the path of revenge. but the point of kennyo was that he hadn’t completely lost his heart in his pursuit for revenge. spoilers for naruto ig but sasuke descended because no one in the village could or tried to understand him. i feel like shingen and ranmaru were those people that could, however (because i’m also shameless about shingen x kennyo). i don’t think kennyo’s character progression sucked necessarily, but i personally found it underwhelming and didn’t really have enough time to play out messier than it was. i wish mai changed kennyo the way she did motonari. i don’t think there was really any argument on morality made in kennyo’s route, and my vague idea of what mai’s argument to kennyo could’ve been basically boils down to this post, especially because it ties so well to him having once been a monk who did just that and still does (even if he’s a tsundere about it):

anyway to add onto kennyo he also would’ve been a more entertaining route to do if the game acknowledged his own hypocrisy of hating nobunaga for his bloodshed when he’s really no better than him in the grand scheme of things. i don’t think it was inherently bad writing to make kennyo that way, but that aspect of him being left unaddressed is what sucks about it. on the bright side, at least kennyo isn’t as self-righteous about it as kicho. kennyo doesn’t see himself a good person by any means.
gonna be so deadass i think motonari is the best written adversary out of all of the lone forces, even if his writing does has it’s faults too, but a good lot of it is a result of racism which is so disappointing since he’s my favorite suitor right after mitsuhide. i just think he had the strongest argument for his motives and where he stands, and even if it is fucked up to want to watch the world burn because of his abysmal trust issues and misanthrope, the game knows. and i found myself understanding and agreeing with him the most, especially because i’m caribbean. honestly i was surprised that ikesen even mentioned colonialism, not that the game doesn’t touch on dark themes. as much as i wished cybird went as hard on kicho and kennyo as they did on motonari, a part of me can’t help but think that the reason they did with motonari is because they’re just kinda harsh with him in general compared to the other adversaries (including the uesugi-takeda).
however, i will say that i honestly couldn’t get behind the whole plot of literally purchased and owned by him for reasons i don’t think i need to explain as a black person. and i just don’t think it even really made sense. i know the lore behind it, but i still just really don’t think it should’ve been him of all characters intentionally funding a trafficking ring he got her in just to buy. as much as i do love him, it’s a tricky slope for me but i genuinely do think he was sabotaged. even then, i get that motonari’s not a lot of people’s cup of tea and i see why.
Okay so if Sasuke decides to go back to the future, he goes back to living his life normally again but this time he sees reincarnations of everyone from the sengoku period but living a happy life this time

my favorite parts of the azuchi warlords/their routes
Nobunaga- his dramatic route was the first i ever read and it did something to my brain. Im also into the freakiness of him and mcs dynamic. And hes cute when hes rlly sweet to her.
Masamune- not crazy about him in general but i actually like how bold he is towards mc in all the other routes hehe. Like it makes the actual love interest get super jealous and makes them look hot, masamune is a girls girl for that.
Hideyoshi- i barely remember his route dude… i just was geeked to see mitsuhide all over it… sorry… but i like that he helps mc get settled into azuchi!
Mitsunari- hes so nice brooooo, the only person in that didnt mistreat mc upon her arrival… that goes a long way for me cuz i hold grudges lmfao.
Ieyasu- my babyyyy, i like how cuteness is an important part of his relationship with mc. Like they both get cuteness aggression with each other. Him especially!! Love it.
Mitsuhide- how deeply he feels. Hes easily one of the most empathetic character in the series, while having the reputation of being the ruthless. I also appreciate that he already knows hes going to hell😭 it makes me laugh but also yeah its a fair assessment ngl. My most favorite moment(s)of his is when he constantly lets ranmaru off the hook 😭and it makes sense because his whole thing is loyalty to the CAUSE not the person, so yeah no point in punishing ranmaru.
Ranmaru- hes always there to save mc!! Like in multiple routes hes ESSENTIAL to mc staying alive.
Keiji- his reaction to mc not understanding that he has a crush on her is really cuteee. And then his reaction when she finally admits to loving him is very sweet as well. He also talks like hes from the future😭

kichos motives and backstory (and by extension his route) dont really hold up well ngllll. He is sexy enough for me to enjoy some scenes but hes genuinely evil ngl. And i know morality isnt so easily defined as good or bad in ikesen and our lovely mc acknowledges that way better than me because wdym you are willing to kill all those people because you want to live in a world where kids dont commit suicide!?! Other ways to do that buddy…. Am i misunderstanding him idek
Also in the 3 years he was in the present, did he not look into any other countries besides japan? Like baby i promiseeee kids in war torn countries who are struggling to survive are still real😭😭 alsooo his love rival being mitsuhide doesnt bode well in his favor either cuz i would be jumping on that given the opportunity ❤️
also like i know mc/mai (IDK WHAT I WANNA CALL HER IN THESE POSTS) has magic abilities that allows every suitor in every route to be at her beck and call but ugh he overdoes itttt. Like in every route for act 2 ive played,he is the central antagonist but mc is always able to talk him down his murderous path. Like deadass it takes like two minutes and wow he is willing to work with the oda again. And ive READ HIS ROUTE AS WELL, and usually my opinion of the suitor changes once i know their backstory but for him its been the same. I dont hate his character he is sexy and sweet when needed but like idk man all i can think about is the deaths that happened as a result.
And ik this is a game about WARLORDS. Every love interest has killed people and by proxy, INNOCENT people but i am such more sympathetic to even characters i am less attracted to such as nobunaga.
Op, I think you’re right because this is hitting some of same thoughts I had after finally completing kicho’s route… like I feel that we never really address that fact that kicho’s thought process makes no sense.
What he experienced is obviously devastating, but he then uses that to justify putting the entire sengoku into a state of unrest… something that is almost certainly going to lead to atrocities against vulnerable populations, ESPECIALLY children. Also? We consistently see random npcs take their life in conflicts to avoid giving up information so ??? How exactly was this situation of MORE war supposed to make people value their own life when we have seen that the main thing it does is give people with the resources more of a reason to oppress those who do not have much.
The only way Kicho makes sense to me is if we acknowledge that he is a little bit insane. Because then, I can understand that his thoughts need not be logical. And i feel like it fits better if his actions are more about just lashing out at the world to feel something, to do something different.
I completely agree that Kennyo was the better antagonist and I think it’s because the contradiction between Kennyo’s thoughts and actions is addressed numerous times in many routes AND in his own thoughts. We know that all Kennyo wants is Nobunaga’s death. We know that he hates that what he’s doing is causing all this collateral damage. We know that he’s still doing it anyway because he’s drowning in grief. AND we know that HE knows that. He knows it doesn’t make sense + he wants to take responsibility by choosing to go out with his ambition, a misguided but in character action.
I like Kicho, but I almost think I would have preferred if his motivations were much pettier, more personal rather than being these grand things about the value of life. Selfishness may be a flaw but it is also an extremely interesting character trait. Then, his personal trauma because a much bigger factor into why he’s so motivated to do this. It also would make more sense as to why he backs down so easily once Mai helps him work through his issues. Idk just some thoughts.
