Thank god for ibuprofen & phone in bed & warm blankets.
"you don't owe anyone anything" You are a tar pit. Speak for yourself. I personally owe the cafe employees my dishes put away and my friends a listening ear and small scared insects a cup and a gentle trip outside. Hyperindividualism is a rancid infection borne of capitalism and willfully misinterpreted therapyspeak and I will defy it by continuing to be kind regardless of whether or not it benefits me personally
i love being a fangirl. i was always meant to care too deeply about the media i consume
"You snooze you lose" anti nap propaganda, changing it to "you snooze yaaaaayyyyyy yippeeeee"
things i am or have been afflicted by:
the not knowing
a terminal uniqueness
not an apologizer but a contextualizer. yes the character did that but please understand the Circumstance. yes they had other options but they had to make this choice in a sea of available bad choices. and also it made the narrative more interesting. won't anybody think about the narrative!!!!!
and i do have hope that there’s something beautiful and unimaginable unfolding, even if i can’t see it.
sorry i had feelings i’ll replace them with jokes right away
we used to have choppy, constantly disrupted livestreams of the eras tour every weekend where we got to listen to the unbridled, off-key joy of thousands of people at once. now i'm just alone in my living room on the couch. and like sure, that's where i was before but i didn't have to cope. bc instead i could watch a choppy, constantly disrupted livestream of the eras tour every weekend where i got to listen to the unbridled, off-key joy of thousands of people at once.
I'm, above all else, a tangentgirl. always saying shit like "sidenote," "oh also," "by the way,"
I protect the family
for all the outrage about how she’s “wasted” the showgirl imagery and symbolism on an album that doesn’t unpack that persona as much as people wanted, it’s also pretty clear now that “showgirl” is not just meant to reference a literal showgirl, but also just the performance in daily life and authenticity vs inauthenticity. putting on a “show” or performance to seem cool, nonchalant, etc. vs realizing how much that specific performance has harmed you at times. the world is a stage!!!
anon i cannot express how perfectly you explained this and unified the themes here
you finally left the table, and what a simple thought
you're starving til you're not
My problem with everyone’s critiques on TLOAS is that they’re caught up on one cringey lyric in a song and refuse to acknowledge the lyrics in the rest of it. Sure if every single word was internet slang you can hate it but it’s one word out of a whole song and they’re acting like all her previous 11 albums become void and she’s ’lost it’.
This album isn’t meant to sounds as poetic as the tortured POETS department, evermore and folklore. Just because she uses more colloquial language doesn’t mean she doesn’t use the metaphors and imagery that make her lyrics distinctly hers.
Let’s also not act like folklore doesn’t have the lakes, an arguably beautiful poetic deep song, that references tweets and cellphones. Or invisible string that starts with the grass is green. TTPD talks about a dog with tattoos. Just as examples. And these are NOT bad songs or albums. Not everything has to be the deepest most achingly intellectual phrase in the English language, I mean, half of this fandom had to google soliloquies.
Some just love to hate on what’s new from Taylor for the sake of it. And if the metaphors and imagery in the album goes over your head it’s really not her fault.
i have a working theory that the same people hating on showgirl would be going feral for like half the songs if taylor had said they were the rep vault
actually think this is true
Life of a showgirl 🩷
