The question of just what kind of a person Naz really was before that night became all the more paramount in this episode. Box discovered that Naz was involved in a violent incident wherein he pushed a fellow student down a flight of stairs. That, along with Naz’s vicious attack on Calvin last week, suggest a certain lingering violent streak beneath his unassuming exterior. But at the same time, we’ve only seen proof that that violent streak rears itself when he’s faced with people who have wronged him. Pushing a bully down the stairs after enduring years of racist taunts and abuse isn’t quite the same as murdering an innocent woman after a one-night stand. Again, it’s a testament to Ahmed’s quiet, intense portrayal of Naz that we can never be quite sure what to make of the show’s main protagonist.
