steve harrington’s journey from “hello ladies” (fuckboy) to “ahoy ladies!” (loserboy) is so special to me. like, yeah, there he is. that fuckin’ guy. that little dork. look at him unlearning shitty behaviors. look at him showing his true self. so proud of that tiny disaster child. you go, baby.
is anyone else on this hill or is it just me and sisyphus and kate bush?

is anyone else on this hill or is it just me and sisyphus and kate bush?
Aidan Gallagher said something in the virtual panel that I adore: that in the post-apocalyptic future, Five essentially went, “Okay, I am going to go insane anyway, so I might as well go insane in as controlled and manageable a way as possible,” and that’s what he deliberately did with Delores.
you know what. i like u. *stylizes ur promo poster*
THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY + runs in the family (x)(x)
You know what sold me on The Umbrella Academy as a show?
The Day that Wasn't.
The episode that points everything forward, upward, out. Finally, finally, the Hargreeves have tilted their trajectory futurebound. Not stagnant, not regressing. Things work how the audience has been screaming at their screens for it to go. (well except for the Dancing in the Moonlight, but even that is a part of the fantasy of one of the characters).
The whole episode, really, is too good to be true. Its a dream. A fiction within in the fiction. If we didn't know better, we'd believe it to be that. A cruel trick played to mess with the Academy's minds and make them stumble later on.
But that's not the point of it at all. In fact, they don't even know it *could* have happened. And it could have. The Day That Wasn't wasn't some cruel hallucination of a fiction none of them could ever achieve. We see it happen. *The audience* sees it happen. But we are its only witnesses.
Klaus doesn't know that in one version of events, one *so* close to his own, that he summoned Dave.
Diego never will know that his mother broke through her programming for *him*.
Viktor was just a step ladder away from changing his destiny.
And then Five returns, for once, too soon. Every victory, erased.
The last 50 minutes of television are now null and void. Not one character will recall it, learn from it, reference it. Because it would never be lived. Except for the audience. We remember.
In terms of moving the plot forward, The Day That Wasn't is useless. Nothing from it, other than Five's actions parallel to it, exist canonically. Klaus never tells Diego about Dave because Diego is never there in the attic in the first place. There's no Allison around when Luther discovers the truth about his moon research. But we still know how it could have played out.
And that's what made me love this show. In a single episode, the audience is able to finally understand Five's plight, if not inverted. If the Apocalypse was born from the Day that Was and saving the world spurred from the Day that Wasn't, is it not feasible that on some alternate timeline they were switched? Is Five not trying to bring about the Day That Wasn't for all of season one?
Is it not Five, blinking into that family meeting, clutching a briefcase, that ensured it would never come to be?
And, for once, Five is no oracle. He is not burdened with the knowledge of what will or could be. We are. And there's no one to tell. No way to fix the story. All we can do is watch.
It was there because we are here. The only emotions being wrecked are our own and the only ones with evidence of the pain are the ones feeling it from otherside a screen. Its fiction of a fiction. Its an open acknowledgement to the viewer that the show knows--that this specific lense has been chosen for a purpose. It's not a 4th wall break, its not character to audience meta. Its the storyteller turning the mirror and its foils back on us. Its all fiction. Its all fake. The hypotheticals, the alternate dimensions are just as real as the canon plot and the canon pain, it just depends on what is left in the final cut and what is said in fanfic. Its all fake, none of it has happened or it has happened and been erased or it was a first draft of the pilot episode and thus not canon anymore.

it's my neurodiversity and i get to pick which characters have autism (steve and robin, they're so wlw/mlm autistic solidarity) but also eddie has the adhd-autism wombo combo just like me and nancy is just the only neurotypical among the group
like logically I know the reason Five went to 2019 was to make sure there was less time for things to go wrong and stop him from preventing the apocalypse, but also I do love the idea of Five being like “My siblings are the most important people in the universe to me, I will do anything in my power to make sure they survive even if it ruins my life or kills me. This has consumed me for years. Everyone else on earth surviving doomsday is background noise. My family deserves life over others because even if they’re infuriating they’re the greatest people I will ever know and I love them dearly- *thinks back to when they were nine years old and Ben pulled an elaborate prank on their dad that lead to Reginald’s skin being dyed bright purple for a week and half of his designer suits to be destroyed and had the AUDACITY to frame Five* - Ben can choke tho💖”
Klaus: hey so Ben wants to know why you’re letting him stay dead even though you’re already risking the time-space continuum to save everyone else’s lives??
Five: Ben once convinced me to go on a bonding camping trip with him and then recreated the entirety of the Blair Witch Project. I was still having nightmares about it while I was living in a post-apocalyptic wasteland-
Ben’s Ghost: lmao Klaus did you never see the montage I made of him screaming?? I think Diego still has a copy
Diego cries when Ben possesses Klaus to talk to him and we got a beautiful emotional scene, but if Five were there he’d just be like “you asshole I KNOW it was you who replaced my mouthwash with pepper spray and not Luther” and Ben’s just like “and now that I can possess Klaus I’ll DO IT AGAIN NERD”
Vanya: this just doesn’t feel right…isn’t there any possible way for us to save Ben?? 🥺
Five, remembering when he was eleven and Ben force-fed him cat food for an entire week: sorry no 😔
Diego: come on we need Ben back
Five remembering when Ben told him that the middle finger is for respect so he did it to Reginald: no no i think we’re fine without him
Luther: our family is incomplete without Ben here….
Five, flashing back to the time Ben convinced everyone to pretend Five didn’t exist- going so far as to make sure he woke up in an empty room and there was no place for him at the breakfast table because Ben SOMEHOW managed to get Reginald and Grace in on it- and the only thing that stopped him from having a nervous breakdown was Vanya, because everyone forgot to tell her about the prank: is it though?
Allison: don’t you miss Ben???
Five, thinking about the time Ben dismembered his favorite teddy bear in front of him, put the bear’s face on like a mask, and chased a weeping Five around the house for literal hours: yeah,,,,,,so much,,,,,,
all the siblings: God sparrow Ben is such a dickhead! our Ben was never like that!!
Five, remembering when Ben poured water all over his pants SECONDS before a live TV interview started so the entire planet thought he pissed himself: *looks directly into the camera like he’s on the office*
I take this to mean that Reginald was somehow and even worst dad to the Sparrows and that he pushed them even harder than the Umbrellas.
Which is pretty sad considering in the original reality , the sparrows has a relatively normal life before the Umbrellas fucked things up.
